    Cornish Rex

Just before Thanksgiving, I spent the weekend in St. Louis with my best friend, who has three wonderful cats...

    Meshka (DSH),

    Mowgli (Bengal),

    and Pikey (Cornish Rex).

While I fell in love with all three, I espically loved Pikey. He would curl up on my legs to sleep every night and was just a huge cuddle bug. I have heard this is generally true of the Rex breeds, and that they are also hypo-allergenic ( the three days I spent there, none of the cats bothered my allergies).

I have also recently learned of 78 Cornish rexes that were seized in Marquette Michigan ( still about 9 hours from here). While some I have been adopted, others are still looking for homes. I am very much in the "kicking around the idea" stage...I haven't even mentioned this to Ralph...but IF I were to look into adopting a rex...I want to know what I am getting into. Anyone have any expereince with the breed? I know Pikey had some pretty bad UTI problems had had to have surgery to reconstruct, and correct his problem. Are UTI's common for this breed? Anyone have expereince introducing them to dogs?

It just happens, that there is a cat show here in Toledo the 8th and 9th of January. I had been considering going to see if I couldn't find a few breeders to chat with, to get more information. I also have a buy one get one free on admission.....Donnna, Kimmy, Staci....anyone else nearby (or far away) interested in going? ( I think I know where I can get more coupons if we want to make this a "meeting")

I know nothing about the breed except Sara and I saw a few at a cat show also.

If you wait until January to get one of those in Marquette, I should be able to help with the transport. My mom lives just South of Green Bay, which I think is like 2 or 3 hours South of Marquette. Maybe someone would be willing to drive it to her house, then I could pick it up there and drive it into Indiana someplace where you could pick it up? Just a thought to keep in mind when Ralph says "But that's a 9 hour drive!"

It's possible Moosmom can help because I know the Cornish Rex is very similar to the Sphynx breed, and we all know the Moo man is quite the sociable fellow.

Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask for help in the transport if you do decide to go ahead with this.

Thanks Debbie! I tried to call the shelter this morning to see if they would do transport, before I put too much thought into it, and they don't open til noon! I'll try again later

I know nothing of the Rex breed except they are so cute! I know... not much of a help am I.

I don't think I'm doing anything on the 8th or 9th. If Andy's parents are up for Kia sitting, I could see if we could both come down. Andy likes the 'cat cons'. *laughs* I'd bring Donna too.

I am from Marquette originally. I would be careful of any transports scheduled for January. Weather can be very crucial.

Unless you guys wanted to make it a "weekend away", you could bring Kia. She and the dogs could play for awhile, we could go to
the show for awhile, and we could take you out for the dinner I promised Andy.

We can talk more and try to figure something out closer to that time

    Beautiful pictures!

In personality, the Cornish Rex is extremely affectionate and people-oriented. They are also active cats whose kitten-like antics last for their lifetime and who can be very inventive in their play. Favorite Cornish Rex games are fetch, catch and even “discus,” in which the cat uses its hand-like paw to pick up and toss a small object. In spite of their sophisticated, elegant appearance, Cornish Rex cats are anything but cool, aloof or dignified. They are perfect pets for the owner who wants active cats to participate in family life.
You can read more about them HERE

I'm doing really well, Thanks. I do start to ge a little tried/sore if I sit or stay in one position too long, but Ihave not taken any painkillers at all today, and have only been using extra-strength Tylenol the past two days. I did get out to do a little shopping today, lettingmymom do the drivingand carrying packages, but after about 4 stops I was ready to get home and relxas a bit. Still, a lot more then I tought I would do 48 hours after surgery!

Kimmy, I had my hair done last night and it turns out the lady that owns the salon is right now in the hospital with....a collapsed lung! I couldn't believe it. I've never known anyone personally who had a collapsed lung, and now I know two people within a month! Sounds like hers was more severe because they actually had to remove part of the lung, but I guess she's doing good and should be home soon. She's older - I would say in her mid 50's maybe? - than Andy, and she also smoked. She has quit for quite a few years now, but still, I'm sure that didn't help any, and definitely could have caused the collapse.

Anyway, just couldn't believe it when I heard it, so I thought I'd let you know. Glad to hear Andy's doing so good!

Glad to hear you're doing good to Amy!
