Thread: Dog sled races: Iditarod, Yukon Quest, etc.

I have been dogsledding twice in Minnesota and it is awsome. Its one of those thing you have to try out once in your life. I also saw a short race(25 miles I think) by a local mushing club. I live in Maryland and we get at the most 12 inches of snow and it melts in a few days. But when we do get snow i put a harness on my dog kodi and he can pull me very fast on skis. The only problem is that he hasn't learned any commands so its hard stopping and steering. In the summer he pulls me on a skateboard or bike but pavement is a lot harder than snow. kodi is a Siberian Husky so he has a natural pull drive but thats not always good. The dogs they mostly use in Big races like the Iditarod and Yukon Quest are Alaskan Huskies.

www.trailkingadventures.com is a website of a kennel near Fairbanks, Alaska that offers dogsled rides. It has some interesting information about dogsledding up there.
