    Russian Dwarf Hamster

SO ..... I go into the pet store today to buy crickets, and there is a lady there trying to get the pet store to buy her 22 Russian dwarf hamsters.

The pet store only wanted 8 of them, so she turns to me and says, "Want one for free?" Ummmm .... ok.

So, now we have a Russian dwarf hamster. Toooooo cute ... like a golf ball with fur! And he's a sweetie, too, we can pick him up and hold him.

Anyone else have one of these little critters?

    Yes, I have one

His name is Blinky. He origionally belonged to a friend of mine, but when she moved into a dorm room a couple years ago she could no longer keep him. So, he's with me now He's nearly 3 years old now and slowing down quite a bit, but he's a sweetie

I used to have 5 adults! Hehehe. One was a Winter white though. I also used to breed mine. One time I took in an abandon mom and her litter of 4. Hehe. At one time I had 17! But I found all the babies a good home. Then I moved in with my aunt and had to find homes for the adults.

Yes, I have three. I must tell you though, that dwarfs are very social and enjoy living in same sex pairs, so you should consider getting him a friend of the same sex.

I don't know if you saw the thread I created about my rescue hammies? I took in about 16 or so, and then the rescue mom also had a litter about two days after I rescued them. They are all grown up now, and I kept the two surviving babies. They are fairly big now, and I just took a bunch of new pics of them yesterday. I will be making a new thread today about them, so I can post their pics. They have grown so much!

If you have any questions regarding their care please let me know and I can try to answer my best.

And congrats on the new addition. Does he have a name yet?

I know, I feel bad about him living alone, but I've never met anyone who could sex them. I had two at one point several years ago, and the lady at the pet store swore they were both males. Well, surprise, surprise, when one of the "males" had three litters of babies! So, I'm afraid to get another one, because I don't want babies. No way, no how. The lady that gave me this said he was a male, but I don't how she knew, she didn't even seem to look too closely.

Do you have a good pair of gloves? If there is no vagina then it's male. If you want, I can take comparison photos for you?

BTW, I posted new pics of my females today in Pet General, so check them out!

    Ya think? Really?!

Seriously ... on something THAT tiny, there is no way I want to poking and squeezing and prodding around down there, I'd be afraid I'd hurt him/her/it.

Comparison photos would be much better, thanks!
