My 15 minutes of fame in Vegas...

Well, shucks. I didn't get wealthy this time. I had an opportunity and I passed it!

I was in line for the elevator, and this guy was in there that was like 7 feet tall. I was being obnoxious. I made a comment to the guy that he was a giant. We wound up having a pretty good conversation. We started talking and he mentioned that he was there with a bunch of fellows for a NBA conference. My brilliant reply was "Oh, like basketball?" He started laughing and goes "No, bowling." Luckily, he thought I was kidding, but I was dead serious when I asked. It totally didn't dawn on me that he was someone. The he goes "I need some luck...I'd like you to join me tonight." I thanked him and told him I'd promised my husband that I wouldn't play with strangers and I was meeting my girlfriends anyways.

Anyways, we get out of the elevator, and a bunch of people coming running over. They were all screaming and taking pictures. He signed some autographs, and then went over to a table where there were about ten 7 foot tall guys. They were all dropping some major money. It was unbelievable.

I had no clue who he was, so I asked a kid. He told me it was "Dr J" from the 76ers. I guess his real name is Julius something or other and he was big in the 1980's.

Later, that night, he walked by and said Merry Christmas and dropped $500 in chips in my cup! I told my husband, he laughed and said "I wouldn't have been mad as long as you didn't leave the casino with him and brought me home lots of money."

    Thank you Wolfie!

Wow, Dr. J, I am not a huge basketball fan but I know who he is. I remember when he was huge, I am sure someone can fill you in.

I would have to agree with your husband, as long as you didn't go home with him and bought back lots of money. However, I am not the real jelous type.

Well it sounds like you had alot of fun.

I guess since you did not hit it big we are not going to have a huge party that you will pay for.:eek

Wow Dr.J. and $500, now thats one nice trip to Vegas.

My husband would have had a fit if he knew I turned down an invite from him, just so he could get a chance to meet him, himself.

How come things like that don't happen to me when I go to Vegas, all I get it is the creppy old men invites. and never get $500, it's more like lose $500. Sounds like Vegas was lucky for you, a great story to tell and $. What more could you ask for. Gald you had a good time.

That's a really cool story I've never been to Vegas when I've been "of age" so I couldn't gamble anyway. But I can't wait to go back

WOW! Dr J!!! That is awesome!!!

Closest we came to seeing anyone famous while we were in Vegas was being at the Mirage, whenthe President was across the street at the Venetian...and there was no way we were going to try and get anywhere near him with Secret Service all over

Here's a good summary of Dr. J's career..

I have no clue who Dr. J is...the only reason that I know why this is something special is how the guys at work had a heart attack when I told them. Lmao. That's why I didn't mention the story when I first got home. I was like "Yeah, some old guy who's retired from the Sixers...Dr. Z or something." lmao.

Tonya!!!! We are major basketball fans in this house, and I definitely am old enough to remember "Dr J" and his wonderful career!!!! How neat that you got to meet him, but I am still laughing at the fact that you called him a giant!!!!

We don't know his middle name.....so I think that gets us off the hook, agewise!
