Sudilar....It sounds as if you weaken further (and you're pretty much there!) and bring Willie home, that the dogs themselves may provide you with your answer. Shiloh may hold the key. It may very well be that if she accepts Willie it may be a "go." As others have said, it is your decision and we certainly don't want you to feel pressured into doing something you don't feel comfortable doing. Anyway, we'll be waiting to hear what happens.

I am so happy that you are thinking about Willie. She's a beauty and she deservs a good home like yours. It's a shame that anyone could have given up a dog like that, I can't understand why because she's incredibly beautiful and kind looking, but hopefully she'll have a happy ending. I wish I could take her.

It's great that you're seriously thinking about adopting Willie. It's good to find out all the info you can and see if she would fit into your home or not. Maybe bring your 2 dogs with you to visit Willie on neutral ground and see how they react to each other. I'm sure everyone here agrees that it would be great if you could adopt her, but it's definitely something that you and your husband should feel is right. We wish you all the best of luck and definitely keep us posted!!! Some of us here live vicariously through others at the moment...LOL...so I enjoy hearing all the stories of peoples canine furkids and the adoptions that happen!! I'm still waiting for the time to be right since we work such long hours. Pam, my 2 kitties haven't been around dogs before...so I'm I have a couple of concerns. I am wanting to do a rescue...but would an older dog be more scary (because of their size) to my kitties? A puppy would be more their size but so much more exuberant....ah...decisions decisions....

Karen...You do have a lot to think about there. My cats had lived with dogs before, although not for 3 years. When I brought Bella home they hid and didn't eat, etc. I was a basket case for about a week. Gradually over time that has all changed. They play together now, although I do monitor them to make sure it doesn't get too rough because of Bella's size....15 lbs. and growing....will be about 50 lbs when full grown.

I had originally wanted to get a rescue dog. Hubby wanted only a poodle and I couldn't find one in good health or that wasn't a "senior." He also felt that a puppy would be best because we would know the background. Picking the right breed is important also. I had researched pugs (love those pugglies!) and thought they would be excellent with my kitties. The vet agreed. Said they are a great breed. Hubby still wanted his poodle so that's what we got. Maybe someday a pug.... Anyway there are LOTS of great breeds out there that would do well with cats. Whatever you do, I know you will give it lots of thought so I am sure it will work out. Tell Marius that Andy says dogs are not so bad.

If it's having three dogs your worried about, TRUST me it really no different than having two dogs. The only thing you have to concider is space, time, and money(it not that much more)
From my own personal veiw I love having three dogs. You are NEVER lonely. And you get to have three different personalities. I get a dog that is mellow and loving(Felice) I get a dog that is athletic and energetic(Zeus) and I get a dog that is a lovey dovey baby who is the best watch dog(Hercules)

But in the end it all comes down to if you REALLY want another dog

I would take if a could. She is just sweet looking and BIG.

Pam, thanks for the info. Yes, I think some of those reasons are why my hubby and I (well...mostly me, he's not as gung ho about the whole dog thing as I am ) are waiting until our lives are less spent commuting! ugh!! It is amazing everything one must consider before brining a dog into the family, and since I know we'll probably be having children sometime down the road, the dog will have to adjust to changes like that.

Bella is absolutely adorable! I'm glad everything is working out. It is a good example for my husband! LOL See, this really can work!
I have faith that you'll get your puglet someday! In the meantime, enjoy the puppy antics and kitty quirks and keep us posted on what's going on with your kids!!

Here's an excerpt from Willie's story:

Well, I went to see Willie today. Sadly, we did not adopt her.
She is a beautiful, large girl with scars on her nose and a broken tooth. She is very watchful of and attached to her foster Dad (who picked her up from the Chicago Pound). She was there for a while (The Pound) because she was evidence in a drug bust. She was their guard dog. After meeting her, I can't see that she would have been any good at it, she's too nice. She does seem to watch everything happening, but I didn't see any meanness in her. She is very strong. She was sweet, though. The Chicagoland Shepherd director thought that she should not be placed in a home with another female who was so close to her own age. She felt that there would be a dominance issue between the females. The director suggusted a male for my group.
There were some very nice shepherds at the event. The newly rescued were so skinny! It was sad. I wanted to take them all home.
There was a really cute little mix (35 lbs.) that looked like a GSD, but really small. They called her a "pocket Shepherd".
We spent 4 hours with the dogs and I can't believe I didn't bring one home.
I guess Willie wasn't meant to be. I hope they find her a good home. I'm sure they will.

I can't believe she hasn't been adopted yet, either. She is beautiful. If it weren't for the incompatibility issue, I'd adopt her in an instant. Hopefully she'll find her forever home soon!
