poor sweet babies!!! I would think that bacterial infection is just the kind of thing that can go cat to cat. (mind you all, I could be wrong) But best of luck with diagnosis, treatment and back to their old selves again as soon as possible.

OH No!! Gabe - get better soon! We are all prayin' for ya!
Dear Gabe, I know you have always been a fair competitor and therefore I wish you get well asap.
If not you cannot take me to the mat and that would be too sad![]()

P.S. Dear Sallyanne -that's nearly too much. I hope the vet can find out what it is.

how is Gabe now?
Well, since Gabe would not allow them to xray his chest, they are treating him for allergies. He was given a long acting sterroid shot....and it should help with his breathing within 24 hours. If it does not help, then it could very well be heart related. The Vet said that Gabe is not a good candidate for long term anything....as in pills, shots etc. and that we would discuss what to do if we see that his shot has not helped. When the Vet listened to his chest, Gabe was breathing so hard he couldn't hear his little heart! He said his chest was not flexible at all and that he thought he was filled with fluid. Anyway, I am just going to cross my fingers, say my prayers and deal with it. I just want Gabe to be comfortable. Right now he is ok. I surely hope the coming 24 are good ones. Wish us luck. Poor Gabe. He was really good until they tried to put him on the xray table. Then all hell broke loose. Graemer is fine today. I mentioned to the Vet (different Vet than Saturday) about my other cat responding to antibiotics and he didn't think it was related at all. Oh well. If I find that the sterroid has not worked, I will ask him for antibotics as a last ditch effort. I will just deal with it, keeping Gabe in mind 100%.
Thanks for your prayers and positive thoughts.

Having been blessed with good health if not good behavior in Edwina I have never had to deal with giving her pills or any medical beyond spaying and yearly visits. I would dread it based on her reaction just to the vet's office.
Is it possible to sedate Gabe so he can be examined more thoroughly?
Sara, the Vet didn't think it was a good idea to sedate Gabe since he is not breathing correctly and it might just take him out completely. I suggested a sedative, and the Vet said he wouldn't dare for fear it would slow his breathing too much. I can hardly watch the poor dear right now, since he looks ok but is really struggling to breath. Graemer is licking his head right now. Its so cute. It is going to be a long night.

I was thinking of you at 4:15 and wondering how it was going. I hope that the shot helps and that it is something as simple as allergies. I am sorry now for my little joke about the bandages on your fingers. I certainly hope you don't need to resort to giving him pills but maybe you could dissolve them in his food if you had to. I know I am getting ahead of things here since we don't really know exactly what is wrong (hopefully it's not his heart, but fluid in the chest sounds scary). Oh dear! Prayers will certainly be on the way for my former Grandcat and you as well. I am assuming that Miley is not in danger of getting anything as Gabe's illness is not related to Graemer's. Please do keep us updated and give that bad little boy a hug from me.![]()
Thanks Pam. I am starting to cry now.... it just breaks my heart ..... to think that things were working out so nicely with Gabe and now this. I will do all I can for him, including trying pills and I will have him sedated and take the risk, if it is necessary.
I think I am going to stop chatting on Pet Talk for the rest of the night and just spend it with the Gabe kitty. I think he needs me to be extra kind to him right now. Poor guy.
I will let you know tomorrow how the evening went and if the shot helped. I may even go to a different vet if necessary.
Thanks guys. You are all wonderful.
Love to all,
SAS
Poor GabePrayers, positive thoughts, and fingers and paws crossed that the shot helps and there is real improvement in his breathing. Please give him a kiss from me
