    Molly - much too young

I am in tears right now. I just found out my friends two dogs got out of the yard last night and another dog owner stabbed them. Molly was 3 years old and did not survive. I have not heard how her big "brother" Winston is doing yet.

Edit to add: Winston is at the ER vet with stab wounds to the chest, but they think he will be okay. Might need surgery to repair an atery. The owner and the other dog are fine, just a few bites on the dog.

I never got to meet you in person Molly, but I saw lots of pictures of you and heard lots of stories from your mommy. RIP Beautiful Girl.

Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

Nothing will probably come of it. It sounds like the dogs were fighting and he stepped in to stop it. I don't know how that works, but there should be consequences for killing someone's dog. I don't know. It's just a bad situation all around.

A tragedy for all concerned. How did her dogs manage to get out? Does she know? Glad Winston will be okay. Gosh, when dogs fight it can be so scary and all can happen so fast!

I have no clue how they got out. I just got this info off Facebook. I don't want to ask her too many questions since I'm sure she is very upset right now. I'm sure it was just a freak accident type of thing.

This is tragic. Anytime a dog or cat dies needlessly, it is tragic.

But, it is completely understandable, too. My son was attacked by a dog, a loose dog. I was witness to, and involved in, a horrific mauling by a loose dog of another dog on its own property. I was, just two weeks ago, cornered, as I walked my dog to pick up my son at the bus stop, by a loose dog. I swear to goodness, I shook for half an hour.

The level of fear I felt (and perhaps what I have witnessed makes me unusual) with the loose dog, who looked identical to your friends dog, btw, was horrible enough. To imagine my own dog being attacked would have pushed me over the edge.

Again, I do think this is tragic, but, I completely understand how someone else, in defense of their own dog, would stab another dog.

I'm so sorry you experienced that Cataholic. And I totally understand about defending yourself and/or your dog. TOTALLY That's why it is such mixed emotions for me. So sad it had to happen at all.

I just heard from my other friend, who is Molly and Winstons neighbor, that they attacked a dog while it was walking with it's people so the guy stabbed out of self defense. The man was protecting his dog, himself and his family. He had no clue if the dogs would attack people as well.

I guess we can be thankful Winston didn't bite a person or he would be joining Molly.

Cataholic, I totally see your point, especially after what you have experienced. I don't know the whole story, but I do know that some people tend to over-react over loose dogs and will do CRAZY things when the dog is no where near them. I've heard tragic stories on the news of dogs killed for simply being out of their yards on their front lawns. I am not condoning loose dogs in anyway, shape or form but I do think some accidents are unwarranted killing the animal really isn't necessary.

Cindy, I am so sorry to your friend. I really am. May Molly rest in peace and I hope Winston is okay!

Winston got to come home last night. So that is a good sign. He was still loopy from the drugs, but at least he is home.

    Thanks everyone.

How tragic. I'm so sorry to hear this but I do understand how this could happen. RIP Molly. I'm glad to hear that Winston is now home and I hope that he'll continue to do well.

Rest in peace Molly. You will always be remembered and loved. What is also tragic it how pit bulls have been given a bad reputation by the rap music scene. These poor dogs are mistreated and mishandled by so many people who are influenced by this scene. Rap fans aren't the only ones who are to blame for pit bull mishandling but this scene has contributed to a big increase in the problem. This leads to a culture of fear within the general population whenever they encounter one of these dogs. So sad, especially when these dogs had no such bad rep decades ago. I will be so glad when musical styles change again; perhaps the pit bull owning fad that goes with this music scene will go away too - leaving only responsible folks who actually love dogs to own the breed. Again, I hurt for Molly and her pet parent(s) and am sorry for their loss.

Very sorry to hear about your friend's dogs, Molly & Winston. Hopefully they will take better precautions so Winston doesn't get out again and get hurt again.
