    Most of the shelters here in CT are reasonable. They try to wean out the undesireables, the ones that SHOULD be on a DNA list. It's based on the amount of money spent to vet the cat. That's what I do whenever I have a cat or kitten that is being adopted. I charge no more than what I put out. Every cat that comes into my house is vetted.

    I think that the Animal Welfare charges 150 dollars for a Cat, but taht includes neutering and spaying.
    I think the Animal Control charges about 200 dollars , and also includes fixing. I have a Good Vet so Josephine Spunkette was around 250 dollars a bargain,

    Harmony House's fee (the shelter from which I adopted Cassie) is $75 regardless of the cat's age.

    My best friend's cat is from the West Suburban Humane Society, and their fees are a little different:

    Adult Cats - 1 year to 5 years old - $125
    Mature Cats - 5 years and older - $75
    Kittens - Up to 6 months old - $150

    Take advantage of our 5-5-5 Program. Any person 50 years and older, that adopts a cat 5 years and older, can do so for the fee of $50.

    We also offer an Adopt A Buddy Program. Adopt any cat and/or kitten for the regular adoption fee and get a second cat/kitten for half of the regular fee. This offer is good for up to 6 months after the first adoption.
    Praying for peace in the Middle East, Ukraine, and around the world.

    Dog = $225

    All animals are spayed/neutered before being adopted. They do have specials on adult cats sometimes. And the local football team, Oakland Raiders, sometimes sponsors adult cat adoptions as well. Then once a year there is a two day event called Maddie's Day where ALL adoptions are free. This event is not only at our shelter but also many other surrounding shelters.

    We also have a senior discount of $50 for 60 years and up. And you get a 60% discount on dogs and puppies first seven week training class held at the shelter. Also every animal gets a free visit to a VCA vet. Although, my vet gives the first visit free anyway for puppies and kittens.

    We paid full price for Taggart (he was 6 months old so $225) and we got Jax at Maddie's Day last year, so he was free. I'm not sure how I feel about the pricing. I have to think it's pretty reasonable just knowing the care that is given to the animals, plus this is the Bay Area in California so everything is more expensive.
    Wanted to add: All pets are micro-chipped and examined and treated for any illnesses. Some pets have to have surgeries for certain things too. The adoption fee does not change if the animal has to have surgery.
    Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

    Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

    The last cat I adopted, Laslo/Calloway, was FREE. He was originally $10 because he is a special needs cat (FIV+), but they wanted him to get a home so they gave him to me for free. I did however make a donation for him. He was neutered, microchipped and everything. It's amazing what some shelters will do to get animals that are special needs adopted.
