    Would you get a new opener?

    I am getting a new garage door. You can only attempt to drive THROUGH a garage door just so many times . . . .

    Anyway, my garage door OPENER works FINE. It is from 1994, so it is 16 years old. It is a Liftmaster, if that matters to anyone.

    Do I get a new opener at this time as well, or keep the one I have until it dies?

    That is the spring, it is a part of the door. All that will be new.

    I am talking about the opener, the electric opener.

    Havent had one of them since my single days, my apartment complex had garages.

    Got married and moved to KY. No garages since moving here in KY in 1998 either at apartment or our present house.

    If it's working ok and maintained correctly and regularly, I would leave well enough alone.

    I don't have one either. I haven't had one since the family garage was converted. Just not popular here in the South.

    Does the old opener work with the new door? If so, I would just keep it- doesn't seem like you would need a new one if that's the case, and there's lots of other things you could get with $200!

    If it's compatible with your new door, keep the opener!!! Save the extra 200.00 bucks, or go and spend it on YOURSELF, which I'm sure you could enjoy!!

    Another way to look at it~~~~~~if the one you have now breaks down. then you have to buy a new one and pay the labor/service charge for installation too - unless you have a friend that can install it for you. If you get a new one now, it could be put in when the door is installed and would probably not add much of anything to your final bill.
    Just a thought.........

    Those door openers don't ususally have much go wrong with them, I'd probably save the money for now if it's in good shape.
    The manual one seems like a way to go...if yours does break down.
