Bonny, the medals awarded do mean something - one example is the Purple Heart. If someone has been awarded a Purple Heart, it means he or she has been wounded in the course of duty, and it has to be a combat-related injury. If you simply get frostbite sitting in a tent, you don't get a Purple Heart. If you get shot, hit by shrapnel, etc. you do. The real rules of course are more complicated than that, but that's the "gist" of that one.

I agree that people should be treated equally up to a point, but I do think losing a limb while in combat deserves more respect than shuffling papers in an office in Kansas, no matter how important those papers are.

All who serve deserve our thanks and respect. Some deserve more.

Bonny, YOU may not give a damn what the military has to say about medals, but federal and state laws certainly do.

Combat in the line duty you get injured shuffling papers in an office when a bomb explodes in Kansas. You aren't up for a purple heart if you get injured then, but if you are in Afghanistan shuffling papers you would receive a purple heart if a bomb explodes & you are injured?

Can I give an example of a bar fight in Saigon during the Viet Nam War between Americans & Australians. The MP on duty gets jabbed with a knife & has to have a butterfly band-aid put on his tiny wound does that mean a purple heart? Should the MP be treated better than the paper pusher who loses an arm, & eye. Is it a political thing with the military?

Has to be in the line of duty in combat with the enemy, so no, a barfight in Saigon doesn't count.

So the paper shufflers don't get anything either even though they are less one arm & an eye?

If I ever needed proof that the only soldiers some people feel deserve respect are dead soldiers, I now have it.

    OK, I will bite.

First, what was said that makes you think, that I think, I am better than anybody else? Please be specific as possible. I honestly want to know. Worse yet, how in the heck to you get that I am trying to be a VICTIM here?

Did you also miss where I said that I, also, want everyone to be treated equally?

I'll ask you the same question. Show me what I said that makes you think what you think about me.

    Hey LH.

Is it time for this yet?

"Black 8, White 2 Golf. Fire Mission - break- Tango Romeo Papa 7 - break - drop 200. Danger Close, immediate suppression, over."

"White 2 Golf, Black 8. Fire mission, roger. Tango Romeo Papa 7, drop 200, over."

"Black 8, White 2 Golf. Roger. Over."

    - 30 seconds pass, or so

    "Shot, over."

    "Shot, out."

    "Splash, over."

    "Splash, Out."

    ????

There is no real freedom of speech it is all politcal. It is about who you know & what they can do for you in this country. Freedom of Speech has lost its' real meaning in the USA.

Pucky, The dumb things you did in the military endangered everyone that was a part of your unit. You are not the ONLY ONE that has scares mental or physical that has been off to war & lived to come home to see another day. Metals have the most meaning to those who wear them & they know what they have been through to receive/earn them. The rest of us really don't care about metals but the mental & physical care of each & everyone that serves in the military should be treated fairly that we can agree on.

Its probably off topic, but what do you think it's real meaning is/was? As I see it, the primary purpose of the speech clause in the 1st Amendment, per the founders, not my words, was to protect 'offensive' political speech. Last I checked, A LOT of people exercise that right and do not go to jail. Even when lies are used.. On all sides.

Bonny... How do you have any idea as to what I did or what happened? I kindly ask you to stop making assumptions. I am really trying to be fair here.

Did I ever say I am the ONLY one? Where are you seeing this?

But yes, we can absolutley agree that the mental and physical care a vet recieves should not have anything to do with any particular medal they are awarded.

Pucky, You said yourself you did some stupid things while you were in the military. You use the word assumptions a lot when someone has you cornered. Your idea of fairness is what you want us to hear from you but not what you want to hear from us. You just don't get it or is just me? Gaw Night to you too Pucky & I am not laughing.

We ALL do stupid things in the military. Sometimes they are things we're ordered to do, sometimes they are things we do to ourselves, and sometimes they're things done in reaction to things others do to us.

Where I think you're missing the point is that what Puck and I will both refer to as stupid things aren't stupid. It's military humor.

There are four parts to a message:

    The sender

    The recipient

    The message

    The medium

If the sender and recipient don't speak the same language, the message is garbled.

If the medium restricts portions of the message (as text on a message board certainly does) content is lost.

Servicemembers, former and present, speak the same lingo, and have similar experiences. There's a disconnect in the language that just can't be overcome at times if you haven't been there.

Puck, danger close sucks.......even if it's on a range.

But, yeah, a little canister might be in order. (oops, we don't have that for 155s anymore.)
