    Tim Wakefield - ALL STAR

    Isn't this nice

At last, Wakefield is an All-Star

BOSTON - Tim Wakefield was planning on taking his wife, Stacy, on a mini-vacation during next week's All-Star break.

I hope she doesn't mind St. Louis; I hear it's beautiful there this time of year.

Yesterday, the 17-year veteran was named to his first All-Star team, when Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon selected the knuckleballer to come out of the bullpen for the American League.

"I've been a big fan of his for a long time," said Maddon. "He's having a great season and it's about time he was named an All-Star."

    It is about time.

Wakefield, 42, becomes the oldest first-time All-Star since Satchel Paige was named as a 46-year-old in 1952.

    Nice Father's Day gift

My son and his wife gave the hubby and me tickets to join them at the Phillies game against the Mets yesterday. We had a great day weatherwise, warm but breezy, and the Phillies won!!! My brother works in broadcast and we got to visit the press booths before the game. All in all, a wonderful day! Here is a link to the photos that hubby took for those who might be interested.

Great shots, and it looks like you had a great time. The win was the icing on the cake too!
I took a peek at some of your other albums - hope you don't mind. The pictures of the old stone church were beautiful. They just don't build them like that anymore. Such beautiful surroundings in which to say a final good-bye.

That is the truth! I was hoping for a win (they won the previous two games against the Mets but you can't assume anything) and it was indeed the icing on the cake.

No problem that you snooped at the other albums. They are public anyway. My mom was buried in Bala Cynwyd, PA and died in Ocean City, NJ so, just like my dad, we had the funeral at the little chapel in the cemetery in PA because of the distance involved. It was basically family and was a beautiful setting.

Good on you, and a shutout to boot!

Why are they called "stands" when you can sit?
Well, I got half the score right?

10 runs in the first inning!!

The worst loss in the Reds history. The previous worst defeat for the Reds, baseball's first professional franchise, was 26-6 on July 26, 1892. That also was against the Phillies.

Ellie, it was beyond belief, wasn't it? My eyes were popping out of my head. Slaughter is a good word. I said to my hubby after the game that it's a good thing women don't pitch in MLB. If I, or any of my girlfriends, had been Cueto we would have left the field crying. The others after him were not any better but he certainly set the pace. Fingers are crossed for a rerun tonight!

Too bad that they couldn't have played that game on Sunday - just for you!!! But then again, you may have required CPR and have been carried out of the stands on a stretcher!

So are you Philly fans voting for Brandon Inge? We Tiger fans are voting for Shane Victorino.

Time is running out to vote Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge onto the AL All-Star team. He's vying with four other players in an online race. The deadline is 4 p.m. tomorrow.

You can vote for Inge, who would make his first All-Star Game, at www.tigers.com/vote. The game is July 14 in St. Louis.

The Detroit Tigers have teamed with the Philadelphia Phillies to encourage fans in both cities to vote for Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge and Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino in the 2009 All-Star Game’s Final Vote.

Fans can vote for Victorino online at www.phillies.com. The winners, chosen by online voting totals, will be announced on MLB.com shortly thereafter.

Well I voted for Shane SEVERAL times! The funny thing is that you can vote multiple times. If it wasn't for Shane hitting that last ball last night who knows what would have happened. I am too old for this kind of excitement at the bottom of the 9th! LOL!

I've been voting for both of them since yesterday morning - and last I heard, they were both in the lead. BTW, they are referred to as Bran Torino, a play on both their names.

    From MLB.com -
After nearly four days of furious voting and lead changes, we're down to the final two hours of the record-setting 2009 All-Star Game Sprint Final Vote. Both races remain up-for-grabs as the 4 p.m. ET deadline approaches with Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino and Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge still holding on to leads, so every single vote of the millions being cast matters.
