If your cat isn't drinking at all, get her to a vet. That is not normal. Does she appear sick and/or lethargic? If so, don't waste time. Get her to your vet now.

Need more information. How long has your cat not been drinking?

Please update as soon as possible - and get your cat to the vet.

    polly wont drink

Hi guys thanks for all your postings! I have to say first of all my polly seems to be in good health, shes very sprightly and has no problem with her toileting! I didnt mean to panic anyone as i think the wetfood i give her supplements her although i am just interested to know if any one has any ideas! Another thing i forgot to say is if i feed her the milk via spoon or by letting her lickit off my finger she will drink no problem its when i leave it in a bowl for her she just ignores it!!! Is she just spoiled or do some cats not drink alot? My vet says if she is looking and behaving ok its fine but u have me worried now tell me more about kidney failure what are the symptoms??? Im Worried now pls write bk asap

Some cats are picky about their bowls and don't like to use ones that are too deep, wide or whatever. Maybe try a different type of bowl. Also some cats prefer running water so try turning on the bathroom faucet to a trickle or getting one of those pet water fountains to drink from.

BTW cow milk generally isn't a good thing to give a cat except in very small amounts as a treat only. Many cats are lactose intolerant and it can give them diarrhea.

You could always try adding just a bit of water to the canned food to make sure she gets a bit extra.

Overall if you vet has looked her over and said as long as she's acting ok otherwise to not worry, then I wouldn't worry just keep an eye on her for any changes.

    Good luck.

    Syringe

Use a syringe to get some water into her and see if that makes her feel better and will begin. If she is not eating, also use a syringe to give her some nutrical.

Have you tested her to see if she is hydrated enough?

Gently pull a bit of skin up on the back of her neck and let it go. If it goes back into place right away, she has enough liquid. The slower it returns to normal, the more dehydrated she is.

Glad to hear she is perkier!

Hi, I agree that milk is not a great option for a cat. I'm wondering if it could have something to do with the water itself. You could pick up some bottled water at a convenience store and put that in a dish and see if your cat goes for it.
As someone else mentioned, the dish used can really make a difference. Cats generally don't like their whiskers to touch the edges when they are eating or drinking. Plastic dishes may effect the taste of the water so you might want to switch to ceramic if you haven't already.
The suggestion catlady posted about adding water to wet food is something I do, just to make the wet food stretch since I have a few cats and it can get pretty expensive. They really seem to prefer the 'soupier' supper, especially if it is the cat tuna.

You could also try to put her bowl in a different place, some cats won't drink next to their food bowl. Or use a glass for her water.

    Good luck!

Smudge is another one who likes "gravy" (extra water mushed into his canned food). He's got me gravy trained!
