Catty1 correctly guessed the quote and will host the next puzzle.

"You were pointing just now to that alley-cat in the yard. There stands one who has strained every nerve and spared no effort to break down Webster's
inhuman self-control. I've heard that animal say things to him which you would think no cat with red blood in his veins would suffer for an instant, and Webster merely looks at him, like a suffragan bishop eyeing an erring choir boy, and turns his head and falls into a refreshing sleep."

    The Story of Webster
    PG Wodehouse

The sharp-eyed among you will notice my mis-spelling of the author's name. I do apologise. It was not an attempt to throw anyone off the scent, and I promise to put my specs on next time.

We forgive you this time, Karen! That was a good quote, but quite a challenge for me - one word I didn't even know.

"suffragan" - that had me for a bit, so took a wild guess! I didn't think bishops were ALLOWED on the campaign Votes for Women.

ETA: # A bishop elected to assist the diocesan bishop, but without jurisdiction or right of succession.
    www.anglicanprovince.org/agglossary.html

    # (1) A bishop subordinate to an archbishop. (2) An assistant to a diocesan bishop to whom the latter delegates certain duties.
    www.aedificium.org/Glossary.html

    # an assistant or subordinate bishop of a diocese
    wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

    # A bishop is an ordained member of the Christian clergy who, in certain Christian churches, holds a position of authority.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suffragan

    No promotion? Poor bishop!
