Thread: Kayleigh could use some prayers..Stitches are out!

Ugh how scary Tamara, I hope it's nothing serious. When cracker was 9 months old he ate an entire pincushion full of pins that the kids had left down. He thought it was a ball. He swallowed many pins but he did pass them all and none were found on x-rays. If he can swallow 2 inch straight pins and make it, I know Kayleigh can. Prayers are with you guys.

Thanks Jess for the great sig of my kids!

that's only 2:30 PM Yukon time ... prolly not a lot of fresh news available yet.

But that give us time to cross some Pawz & Klawz ... and Send a Prayer!

A bit of fresh news, but not good news. The vet just called again. Kayleigh's blood work is a little off, likely due to the bleeding and dehydration. Her intestines don't look right on the x-rays. She didn't eat anything metallic so nothing specific shows up, but as the doc put it, the intestines look "bunchy".

So they are going in...she's being prepped for surgery right now. My friend and highly competent vet, Dr. Candace, will be doing the surgery. The vet who's seen Kay so far today is not a surgeon and usually has a mobile practice. She's very good too; I've used her for housecalls before(mass vaccinations usually), but I must admit, I am more confident with Candace doing the surgery. She saved Pacer's life a few years ago, plus she's calm, gentle and doesn't miss a thing.

Anxiously waiting for more updates and praying that there's been no intestinal damage! The tongue laceration is bad enough, but hopefully that's it. Hugs to you, Tamara and Stuart. Sometimes I think forbidden items pop out of thin air.

    Another update

She survived the surgery and it was the right call to go in. Candace found several toothpicks and a strange shard of metal that I can't explain. The shard had cut her and was causing some bleeding. It would have perforated her intestine very soon and then we would have had even more problems. As it is, her intestine if very irritated, but only hole in it is from the surgery. They also cut into her stomach. That's a complicated recovery, but still much better than have to resect her intestine. The incision on her belly must be a foot long. It's huge!

Under her tongue she cut the major blood vessel. That's where most of the blood was coming from. Candace thinks that Kayleigh must have hurt herself within a couple hours of us finding her. She said that had she been bleeding from her tongue like that all night, Kayleigh may well have bled out or been in much worse shape!

I saw her right after the surgery. She wasn't really awake yet and I'm not sure she even knew I was there, but I spent some time with her and made sure she knows that she is deeply loved. If her temp is normal and she keeps down some food tomorrow, she can come home tomorrow night. She'll be on crate rest for a couple weeks. Anvik is loosing his giant size crate--it's the only one Kayleigh fits in!

Thank you all very much for your kind words and support.
