I've never actually heard it referred to as soda or cola.

I think (even being from other country and speaking other language) I refer to is as Soda.........but when I was a kid it was Coke........even if it was Sprite or any other brand it was still Coke........
I think it´s like Kleenex.........with zillion brands out there, you refer to them as if the actual name was a certain brand.......at least in my case LOL

I usually call it by the brand name, but basically down here, everything is Coke.
I thought about it and came to that conclusion.Originally Posted by Husky_mom
I have always been aware of that whole thing, too...like calling all tissue "Kleenex" or all cotton swabs "Q-Tips", etc. I have always tried not to do that, I'm a Virgo, I sometimes can't help it.

The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with the world. - Dr. Paul Farmer
Soda.
My husband, like most of the people in their teens and twenties that I know, refers to all caffeinated sodas as 'caffeine'. Pepsi, Coke, Mt. Dew, Dr. Pepper... it's all 'caffeine'. Anything without is called soda. I don't have that habit, but maybe it is because I avoid caffeine. Dunno.
It's a Coke. Whether diet or regular, Pepsi or some other brand, it's a Coke.
