After sugery bladder expression?

Ajji had surgery on her back last week and she finally came home last night. The surgeon showed me how to express her bladder properly but I'm not having any luck. She hasn't had that much to drink so I'm going to keep trying until this evening. . . if I can't do it, I'll have to drive her to the vet.

Any suggestions/recommendations on how to express her bladder easier? I fear I may not be strong enough to put enough pressure on her abdomen.

I have never had any experience at that at all, nor do I know anyone
who has.Maybe if she hasn't had much to drink that she isn't ready yet?
I do wish you the best with this problem.Could you call the Vets office
later on if the problem continues?

your dog was put under deep for the operation, and it paralyzed the muscles needed to express the urine. As with humans it takes time to wear off. You definitely need to get the dog back to the Vet. You do not want the bladder to fill, stretch, and possibly burst. Have them show you again how to drain the bladder. If the dog is immobile already a catheter isn't a bad alternative.

Wel first of all you need to add cranberry capsules to her diet. This will allow the bladder to express better with the exercise I know you are doing. how old is this dog/cat and give me some idea why you are expressing the bladder to help further and how much cranberry capsules. you can get them at any walmart.
For a 50 pound dog you can give easily a whole capsule- about half for a 20 pound dog in their food. for a cat is about 1/3 of a capsule twice a day.

Thanks for all the replies! After posting that thread my boyfriend and I tried again later that night. . . SUCCESS! It turns out that her anatomy is a bit skewed. She had her back injury before I adopted her 2 1/2 years ago. . . she was hunched a bit, so that caused her bladder lay above her stomach instead behind it.
Expressing her bladder takes two of us, I press her stomach out of the way and Zane expresses the bladder. Yeahye! I was so relieved.

And yes, I does help when we express her bladder right after her massage and exercises.
