For a puppy the most common causes of casual vomiting in order will be:Originally Posted by coco-bean
Worms or parasites.
Stomach acid build up.
Food allergy and/or maldigestion.
Structural problems in the disgestive tract such as megaesophagus, esophageal constrictions - although these causes tend to lead to consistent vomiting for each meal.
In an older dog there are a myriad of other esoteric causes.
If puppy is vomiting bile more than food that would point more towards acid build up. A harmless try would be to give 75 mg of Zantac (or 200 mg of Tagamet/Cimetidine) 1 hr before the time in the day when puppy is consistently vomiting. If there is no particular time then just give the acid blocker once a day of a time of your choosing. Confirm the dosage with the Vet. They might recommend morning and evening. Keep the food diet constant. Constantly changing the diet in a puppy is just asking for problems.
Per grass a dog will typical graze for two reasons:
1. Acid build up in the stomach causing them to instinctively want to eat something. Feeding more frequently takes care of this problem.
or
2. There is some antidotal evidence some dogs may graze due to vitamin deficiencies. But the connection is loose.
My 3 yr old female will eat grass every chance she gets, and very sheldom gets sick. On our trip to the pond earlier today while the other dogs swam, she grazed at the water edge, then ate grass along the trail, and of course at home. Ate her dinner, and is currently sound asleep on her pillow 2 ft away. When my 3 yr old male tries to keep up with his older sister, he'll usually get sick more often than not. Fortunately he's much less a grazer. He also had morning bile vomiting for a few weeks around 4-5 months of age. A combination of Zantac and growing out of it solved the problem. Yours may be in one of those phases. He also receives Zantac when the Vet sends him home with his once a year dewormer Panacur, as he gets an upset tummy on the dewormer unless given the Zantac.
If your puppy has a good energy level, is drinking water, and has an interest in food then it will be fine before its spaying.
her vet appt. is on the 4th of october! But im going to call and cancel the one with the vet she normally goes to and resched. it at another vet's office! The only reason being is because i dont trust to leave coco alone with that vet! I have full confidence when i am in the room but NONE as soon as i leave! a guy from work recommended me to a vet's office closer, which is in the same town i live in! He takes all 4 of his dogs there and he said the lady is SUPER great with dogs, which is def. what i want! i switch coco to some different food, because i was asking around to see what other people thought and they all said the same thing, switch the food and see what happeneds! well i switched her a day and a half ago, and so far so good! no throwing up! YAY!! but she still needs to be spayed so that will be in the next couple weeks or so!
