    Your plans

I am way too excited about getting my puppy. Even though it won't be for months, I keep making all of these plans.

Are you expecting a puppy/dog? What are your plans to train and socialise it, and will you do any sports with it?

I'm going to start agility training right away. There are so many things you can do without making the puppy do rigorous jumping. I'm going to teach him everything he needs to know, downs and waits and contacts and nose-touches, everything. I'm going to obedience train him right away too. I've decided to skip Visa's obedience career so that means my puppy will be my first obedience dog. I think we're just going to go for his CD though, possibly his CDX. He's going to go on sleepovers to ALL of my friends' houses so that he is used to different environments and situations and so that he gets extra socialised. I want him to be the friendliest, happiest, most well-rounded Belgian ever. He is going to be a stud dog, and most Belgian breeders pick the friendly dogs to breed to as opposed to the ones with the titles. Visa's brother is ugly as hell and he has four litters on the ground right now. I'm going to take him to pet shops all the time and get everyone to pet him and examine him like he would be examined in the ring. Visa has a terrible ring temperment. It's the only thing that keeps her from being Best in Show. I do not want my puppy to have this problem, I don't want anything to slow him down! I'm going to take him herding once a month (I want to start him on ducks LOL), and once a week I'm going to leave him at Doggytopia so that he can socialise with dogs he doesn't know and get used to not having me around all the time. When I take him to work with me, I want him to spend some days in the back with the loud noisy blowdryers and barking dogs so that he gets used to different noises, and some days in the front so that he can play with the other shop dogs and meet the customers and spend some time in a crate.I'm going to take him to Visa's agility classes, and the dog park, and all of Visa's shows and trials. I can't stop thinking about everything I'm going to do with him -- it will be the first puppy that is all mine; The first puppy I get to do everything I want with.

I'm making up a picture pedigree, and I'm almost done! I'll post it when I'm done.

Tell everyone about all of the plans you have for your future dogs.
    I've been BOO'd!

I won't be getting my next dog until 2008 (hopefully, if all goes as planned), but it's really not that far away I guess. I'll be getting a female Toller...don't know what her registered name will be, or if I even get to choose it (haven't talked to the breeder about this) but her call name will be either "River" or "Aero" most likely. I plan to compete in obedience trials with her, so the training for that will start very early on. I'd also like to start agility training excluding jumps and anything else that is too hard on pups when she is about 4-5 months old or so and try to make sure she has her contacts solid by the time she is a year old or so. She will also be socialized TONS from a very early start, I don't want another Tango. I want her to be extremely comfortable in new surroundings with new people, new dogs, strange noises, etc. I especially want to socialize her around other dogs a lot so she doesn't get insane when she sees one as an adult (again, I don't want another Tango..). I'd *love* for her to go for sleepovers and such, for the same reasons as you'd like your Belgian to but either the people I know don't like 'hairy' dogs or they just don't like Tollers (they do have a rep. for being neurotic and freaky, unfortunately...esp. in grooming shops, most groomers hate them it seems but I understand why). She will also be shown in conformation [unless she doesn't turn out nicely as she gets older] so she and I will probably take a couple classes together for that, as I've never handled a dog in the ring before and probably won't be able to until I get her. I don't want her to be terrified of loud noises and storms so I'm going to try my very best to make those times extremely fun for her if she shows any fear, if she doesn't, I won't make a big deal out of it. I'm worried though, as I don't want her to pick up on Tango's reactions. It's also important that she isn't afraid of weather conditions as I'd like to get her into field trials when she's older and of course, she'll start training for that young too. There are so many things I want to do with her and I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

i'm getting a great dane puppy in August! i can't wait!

my puppy's registered name will be Kennel Name's I Can't Dance. i'm co-teaching some handling and obediance classes this summer. my puppy will go and socialize with all the other dogs there. i take my dogs to PetSmart a every weekend, but take puppies 2-3 times a week. there are lots of different smells, dogs and people. i'll be showing my dane in conformation and obediance. my puppy will go everywhere with me. the grocery store, park, grandma's house, etc. i always take my pups to my sibe breeder friend's house to meet her 20+ siberian huskies.

next spring i'll be getting a great dane fawn bitch. her name will be Heaven, but not sure on a registered name yet. i'll also be doing conformation and obediance with her. same socializing as the other pup. yes, i will have a male and female. NO I AM NOT GOING TO BREED THEM! IT WOULD BE UNETHICAL!

not sure of any other dogs/pups i'll be getting. i'll probably always have a rescue dane.

Okay, I don't know if this counts, but I am getting at least three huskies from the humane society, when I move out. Okay I am looking at two to three years from now, but I have had this planned since I can remember. All three of them will be my skijoring (sp?) dogs, and then I will get enough for a couple of sled teams. I will search all humane societies for the huskies who need to be rescued.
Glacier has shown me that it can be done! My whole family has been telling me that shelter dogs can never do that, and some can't, but Glacier, how many huskies of yours are rescued?

Is Visa showing signs of coming into heat yet?!?

I'm going to be getting a female Groenendael from Visa's litter. Her name will probably be Nevaeh (Heaven backwards). Her registered name will be "Attra Dea's Stairway to Heaven". Kai's full name is "Fool in the Rain" and Kaedyn's is "Dazed and Confused" so it'll fit with the Led Zeppelin theme.

The pup will be socialized SO much. I don't want to resocialize another adult dog. Hopefully I'll have my dog daycare set up while it's growing up so I can bring it to work with me and socialize with dogs there. If not, I'll take it to dog parks regularly.. and watch agility trials with it too. I'd love to do therapy with this one too as that would be AWESOME socialization.

I'm also really excited because I'll be feeding this pup raw from the get-go. It'll be really interesting seeing how fast it grows.

I won't be training in obedience too extensively as a pup though. The reason I'm allowed to get this pup is so I can bring it to a program with me. The program requires us to bring an untrained dog. I'll only be teaching it sit, down, stay, and come as well as commands for around the house, and tricks.. no heel, stand, finish, retrieve, etc. I want this pup to have unbelievable recall so I'll abe focusing a lot on recall. I'm going to train for contacts, pause, weaves and tunnel while it's a pup. Maybe even jumps too.. but have it set low enough for it to simply walk over. I think I might start on preparing it for flyball too.

As an adult, we will compete in obedience, agility, hopefully flyball and dabble in a bit of hobby herding if the instinct is there. I'd love to train this dog to utility level in obedience. We'll also compete in conformation depending on how it turns out (although, I'm sure it'll be uber pretty with visa as a mommy!) And if I can find a club for it, I'd LOVE to take on Schutzhund and Rally-o.

And if she turns out to be an excellent example of her breed, I would love to breed her.

Depends on what kind of dog really, and I doubt I'll be getting anymore dogs for a long time.
Someday, I hope to show some dog, preferably a Boxer or Pom, and maybe if I ever got a Pitbull, showing the Public that they're not all vicious and that the owner makes them that way.. *shrug* I really don't know.

Any future dogs I get will be trained a recal and stay right away because that is the biggest dissapointment to not be able to let your dog off leash. If he is a dal (most likley) He'll be trained and compete in road dog trials. The names I have saved are Euphoric Vertigo "Dizzy" Mezzo Mixxx "Mixer" and I have more too.

She's acting completely retarded, but I think that's just her LOL. I'm surprised she hasn't come in yet. She must be the only dog that actually comes in when it's supposed to lol. She's going to come in at the same time as Taboo.

Your puppy will definatly be show quality lol. No doubt about it. I really want to enter Visa into the Best Brood Bitch class, and then we can enter her with whichever two of the three puppies are prettier, your's, mine, or Marla's.

I want to do therapy with my puppy too. I wanted to do it with Visa but she'd never pass the exam. I have the application ready. One of the questions is "Do you EVER feed your pet raw meat or bones?" I feel bad lying lol. Mostly because I'm proud to feed my dog a raw diet. But they won't accept them if they do, which is silly because it's easier to catch salmonella from a dog that eats kibble.

I still like the name Rhythm. But now I'm thinking of the name Revel too.

I am getting my Chihuahua puppy in July! We will be driving to Texas, I will be flying from Dallas to Vegas, and then to Oregon! Whew! The puppy I was considering was already reserved so I am just going to have a good look when I get there. Right now, there are two girls and one boy. Everybody thinks I will like the little runt girl because she is loud and feisty! Hmm. So, I may end up getting her.

I plan to take him/her to obedience classes. I want to do agility but I don't know if that's even possible right now. I really want to, though. Can Chis even do agility? Anyways. I have a couple of idea for registered names. "The Stars In His Eyes", call name would be Orion. "Odins Valkyrie" or "Odins One", call name would be Freyja. I thought up a really nifty call name last night but I forgot what it was.

So excited. No, I don't plan on breeding him/her. I thought about doing it eventually (by reputable standards) with a particular breed but I don't think I ever will. I want my dog/cat/small animal rescue.

I already have my pup Here's my plans... who knows how they'll turn out, though.

*15 weeks (next Saturday) starts Puppy Kindegarten/Play classes

*Socializing with every dog & person I know... ongoing

    *6 months start Puppy Agility

    *6 months start formal Obedience

    *8 months get CGC

    *12 months+ start Flyball!

*12 months try for Herding Instinct Test (if he shows drive)

    *12+ months start Agility and/or Rally-O training

*12+ months start Frizbee training (he's already obsessed with frizbees!)

One thing that I'm super bummed about is the fact that Fozzie cannot be shown. I wanted to show my Cardi, and my sister wanted to show her in Jrs, just for fun. We might try 4-H with him, and/or Gonzo.

We are talking about another five or six years, but I really want to keep these plans. I am going to get a Golden Retriever from a breeder that lives an hour away from my house. They are very good breeders, from what I hear, and at least two people on my block got their Goldens there. The Golden will possibly live in my house for the first 6-months to a year in my parents house. Then I will move into an apartment. A big apartment preferably and live there. When I get a house, I will probably get another puppy. A Great Dane puppy from a breeder. Then, I will rescue a purebred golden(possibly mix) from a rescue, and he will be a seinor. I will probably do agility or flyball with my first Golden. Only one sport though. The Great Dane I will probably just do agility with. Since, the seinor Golden [mix] will be to old(I want one around 8 years) I'll make him a therapy dog. I am also considering adopting a pitbull puppy or a pit mix and I will make him or her a therapy dog to really show people what pitbulls are truley like. But maybe not. That's my plans lol. Sorry this is so long.

I don't think I'll be getting my next dog until next year or the year after. She will be a female puppy Manchester Terrier. And I plan on taking her to parks, to visit my school, to my friend's houses, I want her to be the friendliest dog ever!

21 of the 23 are rescued or rehomed. Only Muskwa and Earle have been with us from puppyhood. 15 are from the local humane society. The others came from other mushers or we rescued them on our own.

Good luck with your plans. I'd strongly advise that if you want to sled with them, that you get one trained lead dog. Lots of them are available as rescues in certain areas. Lots of mushers get rid of their dogs as they approach 9 years old. A 9year old dog can still potentially pull for a few years and a trained leader will make things much easier and more fun for you! Check out the Second Chance League in Fairbanks, AK. They ship dogs for the right home and only rescue trained sled dogs.
If you are lucky enough to find a way of life you love, you must find the courage to live it.
