Thread: HOW Do I STOP These Calls??? HELP!!!

  1. #31
Again, if calling and informing the company that the person they are looking for doesn't have that phone number doesn't stop the calls, file a complaint with the state AG. Most state AG offices have sections devoted to telecommunications enforcement.

For those who do not want to be on mailing lists, here's a link to a "do not mail" list.

The USPS is required by law to deliver all mail to the person/business it is addressed to. What consumers call "junk mail" in postal jargon is either standard mail or Bulk Business Mail (BBM). There is nothing the carrier can legally do with it other than deliver it.

    Jessika,

That's exactly what I was thinking!! If it's SOOOO important, they should have all my information. I got 3 calls again today.

I also get calls from pranksters. I just hang up on them.

This is a link to the Canadian Do Not Call directory.

It is free and will block addressed junk mail, faxes and phone calls.

While we are ranting and raving here - someone mentioned getting faxes that you do not want.

This is a HUGE pain to me. They send them in the middle of the night - so I don't find them until the morning. AND the little buggers no longer put their phone number on the top, so you cannot tell who it is coming from.

Some of them have numbers you can call to stop them from sending you faxes. I have called (all electronic) and punched in my fax line so that they would remove it. Very next day - another fax comes in - but at the bottom they have yet another phone number to call if you don't want to receive them.

I run a report on my incoming and outgoing faxes.....but those junk faxes never have any number listed on the report.

This was just emailed to me - very funny!

The phone rang as I was sitting down to my evening meal, and as I
answered it I was greeted with "Is this Karl Brummer". Not sounding
anything like my name, I asked who is calling. The telemarketer said he
was with The Rubber Band Powered Freezer Company or something like that.
Then I asked him if he knew Karl personally and why was he calling this
number. I then said off to the side, "get some pictures of the body at
various angles and the blood smears", I then turned back to the phone
and advised the caller that he had entered a murder scene and must stay
on the line because we had already traced this call and he would be
receiving a summons to testify in this murder case.
I questioned the caller at great length as to his name, address, phone
number at home, at work, who he worked for, how he knew the dead guy and
could he prove where he had been about one hour before he made this
    call.
The telemarketer was getting very concerned and his answers were given
in a shaky voice. I then told him we had located his position and the
police were entering the building to take him into custody, at that
point I heard the phone fall and the scurrying of his feet running away.
My wife asked me as I returned to our table why I had tears streaming
down my face and so help me, I couldn't tell her for about fifteen
minutes. My meal was cold, but it was the best meal in a long, long
    time.

I love this, serves them right. I've had the same problem, a couple of times it's been actual people. Once I even had one argue with me when I told them that person was not at this number. They kept insisting that I owed the bill thinking I was lying to them about who I was since the person they were looking for was female. I finally got completely annoyed and hung up on them, then called the company back and spoke to a supervisor...needless to say I never received another call from that company.

My messages never say that. I've tried that. They just keep looping around . . . I think they'd repeat for days.

I always try hitting "Zero" - it will often get you through to an operator - a.k.a. a real live human being!

and for those of us who truly loathe the automated answering systems you get when you call a company to tell them to stop calling you:

LH- WHY (if you know....) do they charge $5 to do it online, but 0 by mail? That seems a bit backwards to me. I am filling it out and mailing it in, and hope to see lots and lots less mail...he he he..

No idea why they charge for online but snailmail is free. The list is run by the Direct Marketing Association, not the USPS. That seems backwards to me, but the PO does things the same way sometimes, like change of address forms.
