How Big is Your Turkey?

I got an 85lb turkey. JUST KIDDING well we actually got one that is around 20lb. We are going to be feeding alot of people so i think we will probably need more than that.

I got one that's 22 3/4 lbs, thinking that I was cooking for 4 or 5 and we'd have LOTS of leftovers....then more people called & said they'd come, so now I'm cooking for 12 --hope it's big enough!

My mom bought a turkey that's 22lbs. and there's only going to be me, my mom, and my dad so there will be lots of leftovers.

Kuhio, LOL!! They run a similar promotion at the grocery store in my hometown. They give out 'Turkey Bucks' starting around October and how many Turkey Bucks you get depends on how much you spend per shopping trip. Then you add them all up and can use them towards a turkey. My mom almost always gets enough Turkey Bucks to get hers for free.

The standard "rule of thumb" is to allow 1/2 lb of uncooked turkey per person. Of course it would depend on how many side dishes are served as to whether everyone would be satiated with their turkey serving. Keep in mind they are not saying 1/2 turkey meat per person, they are allowing for bones and gizzards etc. I'll be cooking a small ham on the grill as well as the standard turkey dinner but usually end up with a fairly good sized bird because we LOVE the leftovers.

We aren't cooking turkey here, butI think my dad said last night he got a 14lb turkey. I don't know what size Ralph's sister got, but I'm guessing in the 20-25lb range.
