I get a different brand at costco that is a bit softer, the brand is dr. dental. I looked at the package and it says to watch your dog to make sure they are not gulped, it says if your dog does not chew them properly don't feed them to them anymore.

My dogs love greenies. Nacey doesn't get them though because she often gulps things. The others enjoy them often.
The package says to wrap a moist paper towel arownd it and microwave it for 10- 12 seconds to soften it. The package also says- "As with any edible product, monitor your dog to ensure the treat is adequately chewed. Gulping any item can be fatal to a dog."

One of my customer's dogs ate pounds of gravel out of their driveway and had to have $1,000's of dollars of emergency surgery to save his life.
A few weeks ago, my sister's dog found a pair of socks under my nephew's bed and ate them. They became wrapped around her intestines, and again ... $1,000's of dollars in emergency surgery and a month of crate rest and special diet.
I have heard of dogs eating, swallowing and choking on everything from kibble to panty hose.
Yes, things happen. Just like they happen to people. Babies can choke on a piece of cracker one day, even though they've been eating crackers for months. Someone may choke to death on a bite of hamburger or an olive. It happens.
Use common sense, watch your dog with ANYthing you give him. IMO, greenies are no more of a potential danger than anything else.
"We give dogs the time we can spare, the space we can spare and the love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made" - M. Facklam
"We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers - thieves planting flags, murderers carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."- P.S. Beagle
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien
Dogs will choke on anything. You hear more stories about greenies because so many people give them and they are a new product. When I got Autumn the stories were all about rawhide chips. I've been giving her rawhide chips under supervision all her life. If she had a problem with them I wouldn't give them, but I don't blame the rawhide chips themselves. I don't feed greenies, but If I did these stories wouldn't scare me because I know my own dog and I give her things she won't swallow chunks of. This reminds me of Hilary Clinton wanting to ban hard candy, name me something that you eat that nobody has ever choked on-impossible to do.
"There are two things which cannot be attacked in front: ignorance and narrow-mindedness. They can only be shaken by the simple development of the contrary qualities. They will not bear discussion."
Lord John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton
I dont' give them because they are so expensive. We got a free one, and I have to admit I was a bit leary because I thought Sherman might swallow it whole. But I watched careflly and he did chew his piece up. Star chews everything into little bites, they did like them, but like I said, they're so expensive, I usually get Chewlottas instead.
I agree. My babies have never had problems with them.Originally Posted by Kfamr
Those stories might be true but anything you look up has good and bad stories.

Since his first free sample from Beenies Mom my Tobey loves them! Have had no trouble with him or his doggie friends Harley, Eddie and Sharna - the greenies don't last long with them around!
