Thread: A prayer for Duffy

  1. #16
    Sandra:
Thanks for your message. All I heard from Susan so far is that she was very happy with the new vet. He called her several times to reassure her that Duffy was doing well after the biopsy. He also thought that it may not be lymphoma because he would not have lasted four months after the swelling in his neck was discovered. That's how long it took for poor Susan to find a vet who really knows what his's doing. Lets all keep our fingers and paws crossed until the results of the test come back.
The place she found is Rowley Memorial Animal Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts. It's a new facility with 12 consulting rooms and the latest technology available. I hope no Pettalker needs it, but it would be good to know about it for anybody in that area.
I'll let you know as soon as I hear from Susan.

    Alicia,
Good news for Duffy, so far. Will offer prayers
everyday that Duffy gets a clean bill of health.
Good Positive thoughts & Prayers for him .I have
never met an Airdale, but have always loved the look of the breed. Is he really goofy? ( just that much cuter)
Maybe we could see a picture of Duffy when
    he's feeling better.Good Luck Duffy !!!

Thanks for the update Alicia! It sounds like he is in a wonderful facility. The should give Susan a great deal of reassurance. And the first reports sound so encouraging. Yay!!! Still, we will continue to keep Susan and Duffy in our thoughts and prayers until we get the "all clear!" Please let her know we are thinking of her. And I for one think Airedales are SO special! What beautiful creatures! Hugs to Duffy! Hope we can "meet" him when he's feeling better! Sandra

I learned an important lession a week ago.
    Check your dogs for lumps.
My sisters dog's groomer found lumps as she
    was gromming their Shitzu.
They took her to their vet and
the lumps are cancer/spread. To late in the game for
    surgery or treatments. Very sad.
So I very much hope for more good news
    about Susan's Duffy.

Here is Duffy in his "angel" desguise.
Unfortunately, the news are not good He has lymphoma. The vet did many tests to make absolutely sure, he believes it is slow growing and has began to treat him with oral chemotherapy. Of course, Susan is devastated; she thanks you all for your prayers and possitive thoughts.
    Please keep them up.

I talked to Susan last night. She was feeling a bit better because among the many tests Duffy had some were to make sure that his vital organs were not affected and they are not. The vet hopes that with a first, very strong, shot of chemotherapy followed by oral medication he will hav e a good chance to arrest the growth of the lymphoma.Lets hope so... So far, Duffy eats well and is his usual goofy self, with no sign of slowing down.
Sue sends her greetings to all and her thanks for your good wishes and prayers. And thanks from me too.
I'll let you know if anything new happens.

I'm so glad the vital organs are clear. They say chemo isn't as bad on dogs as it is on humans. I sure hope that's true! It would be great if the cancer can be stopped!
