    Guinea pig gave birth????

I have a question. One of my cavy's recently had two baby girls. And i was wondering if the girls need to be seperated from the mother, or can they live in the same cage as her. And if they will start drinking water when they are born.
    Thanks

It depends on how old the babies are, they should stay with their mom for atleast 2 weeks(but they can eat and drink on their own as a newborn) and if the cage is big enough they can stay in there with their mom. The cage size should be at minimum 10.5 sq ft prefered is 13 sq feet. Hope I helped!

You can leave them in with their mom.

Do you have homes for them already?

baby gunieas are born fully furred as you probably know now .
they are born eating solids and drinking water..

they need their mother so social reasons.
they should not be serperated from their mother till they are 5 weeks minimum.

Since they are both girls they can all live together ..

have fun with the new babies

No not really. My cusin said she woul'd ask her parents so she can keep one. But yeah, cause i read somewhere that you should move the boy out but i was'nt sure of girls. I guess the cage is big so that all of them can stay.

If you don't have homes for the babies why did you breed in the first place

Here is a website that will answer some of your questions.

Are you SURE the babies are both females?

So you don't have the male ?

So you aren't sure that they are both females? If your not positive read the website I gave you, it will help you find out and will tell you when you need to seperate the babies from the mom.

they should stay with the mom at least 3 weeks, but it depnds on the litter a small litter will wean faster then a large litter, for example I have raised 2 litters, 1 of 3, they were weaned in 3 weeks, the other of 6, they actually took 6 weeks to wean, having males in the litter makes it much easier to tell lol basicly when males start to rumble strut(wiggle their butt and purr) they need to be seperated NOW or they will breed back to the mom. females never have to leave their mom, all my girls live together, only males must be separated into no more then 2-3 to a cage, and 3 is a risk. any questions just ask, as I said I have raised 2 litters
