I used to know ASL but I'm rather rusty. I do know the basics, or at least can usually make myself understood. Do you read lips? I have my ASL book at home, I can try to practise. My son knows it better than I so I can see if he can help me.
    I'm Laurie by the way

    So sorry for my absence

Just completed some work reports and work has kept me away from Pet Talk except for a few posts.

Gina - I am Gini - and the BBQ is held at my home in the heart of Los Angeles.

I do not sign, but hopefully someone that will attend does.
But that does not mean for a minute that you aren't welcome with wide open arms. We tease a lot and laugh a lot, but we are a very congenial group and all have become good friends. If we run into any trouble, we will just park you in front of the computer and let you type out your questions.......and we can answer you on the spot. Everyone will make you feel welcome and comfortable, trust me!!

A Southern Chick is also very welcome to attend as well. North/South/East/West - y'all come, ya hear?

When the time gets closer and I know who is coming for sure, I will p/m you with my address and directions. But you do know that the date is Saturday, July 16th, I hope.

oh no, not that you guys would turn me around and kick me out, throw slushies at me.. I just have had enough of going out on events with my friends who don't sign and ..always.. being left out...no matter what I do. includes birthday, thanksgiving and christmas dinners with MY own family too. all my life. they just *forgot* that I'm there, hearing nothing, having absolutely no idea what they were talking about!

but don't worry, I do always give a chance! world changes in those days...

lbaker, I can read lips but I often prefer to answer "no". because some people speaks SO LITTLE that I even still can't understand or some people with mustaches..."uhhhh what??"

    mustacher: oh..nevermind! *walks away*

just a daily story I'd more likely going with my non-petalk (because no one is deaf here too) friend..is that ok?
rest and sleep softly sweet locke..

yes, I am deaf. I can't hear at all if you scream right in my ears.
Gina, please, please forgive me. When I first posted I did write "deaf" then realized that it might not be the politically correct thing to say so I changed it. Thanks for setting me straight. It's so hard for me to keep up with times. Looking forward to meeting you and as Gini says, NO ONE will be left out of the fun. That's just the way we are.

Now I have another reason to learn to sign! I've been wanting to learn for a while since I work in customer service I've always thought it would be a good thing to know.
    I've been Defrosted!

Thanks for the great signature Kay!

Now I'm even MORE excited, as is my son. He is "challenged" to make me remember my ASL. I do know my letters but he says I'm too slow Laughing is universal and crosses all language, even the unspoken. Sometimes when Gini, Slick and I are together we only have to look at each other and we start giggling (but maybe that's because we look funny in the morning?). Whatever. Body language is ever so much more interesting, wouldn't you agree?

God, ain't that the truth? Besides, you've never seen me freshly crawled out of bed, but I guess there's always a first. Be very afraid.....

This one allows you to look up words and it will play a video to show you how it's "signed"...you need Quicktime.

This one shows us the alphabet....I'm a visual person and need to see how it's done as opposed to just explaining it with words.

Gina....does it matter whether I sign with my right hand or left hand??? Some letters of the alphabet I can do better with my left hand.
