    Kitty positions

Inspired by kitty nicknames, I thought of the silly names we give the various positions our cats assume. Some of Ritz's

Tummycat-on back, feet up, waiting for tummy rub

Tortellini cat - curled up in a circle, head often tucked into back feet, asleep

Parade float kitty - sitting down with all feet "hidden" - looks like a parade float going down the street with the skirt hiding the wheels)

Stealthpuss - hiding somewhere under or in something, waiting to attack

Fuzztail - scared puss - puffed out tail

Cuddle mode - curled up next to mommycat at night

Yoda cat - flattened out, attack mode with ears "flattened out"

Skunk dance - the sideways jump attack (grew up on a farm and saw this behavior in skunks when they were threatened

Leonardo does what I call his BEAR RUG pose. He lays on the back of the rocker-recliner with a hind foot and a front foot draped on each side and his head straight out, chin down. His tail sticks straight out behind him. Just like the pictures of old bear rugs you see in the movies.

    Wow!

    Love this thread!

I've heard the pose you call Parade Float as Meatloaf Kitty -- I think it was from one of Kilban's cartoons in the 60s or 70s??

Going to have to think about this. Got such giggles picturing the poses as you described them! Hee hee. Great!

Whew, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who refers to the cat as "meatloaf"....

And Elevator butt is priceless! ROFL

    There's also

Prairie Doggin - up on hind legs getting a better look

Sphinx pose - similar to 'meatloaf' or "parade float kitty", only with two front feet out in front. (or "how do you like my new french manicure, mom?")

Contortionist cat - kitty cleaning the "privates"

Razzberrie puss - kitty with part of tongue sticking out

Kodiak bear - up on back feet, tagging mommy with front paws as she passes by. (we refer to it s being "yakked" by the cat

Our Vinny (a fifteen pound longhaired brown and white mackerel tabby) likes to stuff himself into the doorway of his crate and be a cotton ball cat! When the inclination strikes him, he'll walk along the piano keyboard and become a concerto kitty. He also likes to disguise himself as a warm, fluffy striped puddle on the floor, always where you least expect it!

I agree -- Vinny sounds adorable.

Sara, wasn't it you that referred to your kitty at play as "commando kitty"? That one was good too...

Scooter's mommy referred to the "bowling pin" imitation...I love that one too, always picture 10 tuxedo cats sitting in pyramid formation, looking like furry bowling pins

    There is also

U-stretch when they first wake up, stand up and put all feet close together and stretch their bodies into a u shape

Bunny toes - when they stretch their back feet out and extend all the toes (I call it bunnytoes because it reminds me of Bugs Bunny's feet)

Then, there is always, the modest, ladylike, ...."Proud tummy" pose
