    Please Help

I took my dog, Fenway, out to potty this morning. He peed but he wouldn't poop. I went back into the house and called work to tell them I would be late. I then took him for a 1/2 hour walk. He STILL didn't poop. I called the Vet and told them it had been over 12 hours since he pooped and whether I should be concerned. He pooped last night at 5:30 and it was normal and then he pooped around 8 but it had pieces of a red plastic toy in it. I had to get to work so I left him at home. I feel so bad because I was yelling at him to poop. I think he may have some blockage in his intestines but I'm not sure. I'm going home at 1pm to see if he'll poop. If he doesn't, I'm going to call the Vet to see if I can take him in. I just feel awful because I yelled at him and all this time I he was probably sick. Has this happened to anybody else's dog (not pooping)? If so, what was the outcome? Did you have to bring your dog to the Vets? Did they do surgery? Do they tax x-rays? I hope Fenway will be okay. I just feel so awful. I'd die if anything happened to him.

It sounds like the toy really had your dog plugged up. I would check for blood in the poop next. Do you know what kind of toy your dog may have eaten? I would call the veterinary after you check your dog again this afternoon & see what he/she would suggest next.

    Keep us updated on Fenway.
    I hope he doesn't have a blockage.

I think it was some kind of plastic sqweaky toy he ate. I just don't know. I'm so upset. I just talked to a co-worker and she told me he may have to have surgery if he can't pass whatever is plugged up in him. I was going to wait until 1pm to go home but I think I might leave at noon. It takes me 35 minutes to get home. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for the suggestions.

Its not unusual for casey to poop once in 24 hours..I believe if there is a blockage there is usually vomiting also.
don't breed or buy while shelter dogs die....

It is possible that it may be a blockage, but you'll have to have Casey checked out, an x-ray taken, before you'll know for sure. You'll feel lots better once the vet checks him out He may just be constipated. Is he still eating? Did he show any signs of distress the past day, not acting normally? Best thing is to get him to the vet's and get a definitive answer. Surgery may not be required, so try not to think that far ahead. Often the vet will admit them and just watch and wait and see if they pass whatever might be in there. Hoping for some good news! Lots of hugs and prayers for your dear Casey Please check back when you can. Sandra

Fenway is fine. I went home at Noon and walked him and walked him and walked him and walked him. I swear we did 10 miles of walking. He finally pooped and it looked like his usual normal poop. I still brought him to the vet. The vet did some blood work and felt around his tummy but couldn't feel anything and the blood work came back normal. I was so happy and relieved. I apologized to him for yelling at him and I took him to the dog park where he stuck by me like glue (which he does normally).

    He's such a momma's boy.

Personally, I like to think he was "faking" his illness so I would come home and play with him.

He's at doggy day care today so I'm sure he'll be playing with his friends all day.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I'm glad this forum is here. I feel alot better after reading the suggestions. Thanks.

Glad to hear Fenway is all right. Dogs like to chew on lots of things they shouldn't sometimes & maybe the walking helped him pass that plastic you saw in his poops orginally. Taking Fenway to the Vet & having him checked over had to give you peace of mind too.

Sorry about that! Casey in the post above me stuck in my head. Yikes! But the sentiment is the same, so glad to hear Fenway is doing well
