What made you pick that particular dog?
I work a boarding and rescue kennel,
And since i started i was on the look out for that speciel dog!
Rio entered the building with a huge chain on her little puppy neck, riddled in fleas and mange!
so i told my mum and it was a no!! on the 7th day her last day! mum said yes without even sheing her! so at this stage i didnt tell mum about the mange!!! and brung her home, she peed on the floor with excitment! and from then on has been the little angel thief, my little girl is 2 in november!!!

Kia was quiet and huddled in the corner of her cage while the other dogs were jumping with excitement and totally playful.

Kia just had to look at me and I knew she was it.

My mom and I were on the lookout for a second dog. We contacted a sheltie rescue in washington. My mom said we'd go there if we couldn't find the right dog here. What attracted me at first was that he was a sheltie (duh!) but then I thought he was the perfect size for us because Kai seems to get along better with smaller dogs than big dogs. He also was extremely quiet and sitting in the corner with a sad look on his eyes. So we filled out an application on his sixth day there (they're required to hold the dog for 7 days minimum). After his 7th day, they called us and asked if we were still interested .

Samantha wasn't rescued from a rescue shelter, she was rescued along with her sister, from the side of a highway. My neighbor brought them home with her and asked if we knew anyone who was looking to adopt a puppy. The second I saw Samantha (then known as "the light one"), I knew I had to have her. Her sister was adorable and everything, but there was something in Samantha's eyes that just connected with me. And she's been my baby girl ever since... :approve:

I was looking for GSD rescues, so I knew where I was looking, and found a GSD rescue near me.

Sierra was 5 months old, and had been beaten. She's 2 now and is a little angel...cough...cough.... well.... she tries!! Still knows signs of previous abuse... but sometimes those scars don't heal!

Buddy, he was found living in a bard in the middle of no where by himself, the APL that found him had no idea how long he had been there, and it took them almost 2 weeks to catch him! By the time I got to him, he had been in the kill shelter for longer than they should have kept him. No one wanted him because he was SOOOOO afraid of everything. But he's my big Buddy boy now! (still afraid of my hubby.... no one else... but my hubby, but were working on that!)
As for mange, when we got Sierra, she had mange and we did not know it, my hubby and I both got mange from her (ugh)
After all the $$$ it took get them both healthy after being in shelters, it's all worth it every day when I look in to there eyes!!!!

My little Macs is my rescue. Some people bought him from a Pet Store in a mall, , and thought "little apartment, little dog". He was left alone all day and punished when they got home if he had pottied in the house, , like where else was he supose to go? They fed him cheese constinatly to make him not bark.. .
I rescued him when he was almost a year old. Today he is 8, and the happiest dog in the world. He has a yard to play in and two brothers. The minute I saw him I wanted him. Just look at his beautiful, loving eyes and that great big doggy grin!!! He is my baby.

Out of all of ours, we only have one rescue. Carly belonged to neighbors we had at our old house. She was an adorable pup and we knew their track record of having dogs. The minute they started to grow up, these people couldn't handle them. They never did any kind of training or set up any structure for the dogs. Their kids brought this pup home one day and these parents wouldn't say no to anything. They already had one dog who ran away on a regular basis because they didn't do anything with him, so we knew it wouldn't be long before they would need to do something with Carly. Dick and I said we'd take her if they ever decided they couldn't keep her.

After about a month of asking, they finally said we could have her. She was a wild one. She ran away back to their house and destroyed things. You name it, she did it. But over the last 4 years, she has become the best dog out of all the ones we have. She's our watch dog. I feel really safe with her around. The others will bark at anything, but if Carly barks you know something is up.

She loves being inside resting on the bed, going outside the fence for walks, going bye-bye in the car anywhere but the vet and just hanging out with me. (Yeah, she turned out to be my dog. Loves Dad, but Mom is it!)

By the way Linda, what kind of dog is Macs?

He is a mini Doxie. I have three. My three boys!! Macs is my smallest, at 11 lbs. He has two brothers, Oskar and Mr. T..... This is my little family.

Wilma was a local no-kill shelter (the kill shelters here ususally just put the pittys down when they come in) and I loved that she was only 40 lbs. She was quiet and didn't bark. Well, that was because she had kennel cough. lolololol

Joxer was at the Humane Society and I could just see by looking into his eyes that he was a sweet dog. Then we took him for a walk and he peed on my foot! lolololol Guess I was his at that point!

Buford we saw in a very rural kill shelter, about two days away from starving to death. We really didn't want three dogs, but there were soooooo many dogs there and I just knew he'd be killed. So we took him and he's been a wonderful dog.

I must mention that Wilma is very particular and we let her choose the other dogs. So far, she only likes other big, brindle males.

Duke was rescued from the side of the road also. A nice lady had him, his brother and 3 other dogs with her until they could find homes. Duke's brother jumped up and kissed me in the face, that made me choose Duke He's the best choice I've made in my whole life.

Samson was tied to a post at the shelter/rescue where I volunteered. He was so skinny and his teeth were broken. He had a bare rear end with a tumor the size of a tennis ball sitting on his hips. He had the saddest eyes.

He was there about three weeks. He kept looking worse. He wouldn't push his way to the food dish when another dog took his portion. I couldn't stand to see him deteriorate, so I decided to foster him until he was in better health.

He had the tumor removed, heartworms treated and lots of food and vitamins.

Four years later, he's still here.

All these dogs are so lucky, its a shame that there are so more unlucky dogs out there! i would have a house full if i could! Rio wouldnt be plesed though she likes all the attention on her!! we do have two others but they are my mums and my bros!
ill be getting another dog when our oldest dogs gos to doggy heaven, hes 15 bless him!

Spot was actually on the table to be put down, then the girl at the shelter started crying. Until that moment she did not realize how attached she had become to him. Her boss saw this and told her to go feed him, and give him one more day. She sent out a bunch of emails, of which PT's Mugsy was a recipient. She called me and said this dog has 8 hours left unless someone takes him.

My husband and talked it over, and although we weren't sure we wanted a thrid dog, we agreed to get him out of the situation and she how things went either we would foster him until we found him a home, or keep him ourselves...by the first night he was laying near our dogs, and the second on a pile with them. It was obviuos he had found his home

Simba was just as Kia was. Laying down peacefully as his cage mate jumped ALL over him. Who could resist Simba's eyes, anyways?

We adopted Nala because i've always wanted a puppy. She was the smallest in her litter and my dad didn't want a *HUGE* dog, although she's getting there anyways
