Another Reason for ID tags

Last evening, after I got home from work, i was outside with the dog. I came in to do dishes and left them outside inthe fanced in yard. About 5minutes later the phone rings and a neighbor is calling to tell me she has Spot....and that he was running around with some other black dogs!!! I run outside and they had opened the gate! But there is Spot and Sadie, in the front yard. and here comes Cincy through the flower beds. So while my heart stopped, it was only briefly Ralph has drilled a deeper hole for the gate secure, so they "shouldn't" be able to push it open (Course we didn't think they could before)

Please, keep some ID on your dogs!!! If I hadn't who knows how long they would have been gone before I knew, or what could have happened.

I have to feel good, about a few things though....
1. They all stayed together...they must like each other!!
2. They never crossed any streets! ( Hard to run away when you aren't allowed to cross the street!)
3. By the time I got outside, they were all back in their own yard...they must like it here!

That must have been so scary, if only for a minute or two! I am so glad nothing happened to them and they got back home safe and sound.
I am so paranoid about Bob getting out, even with his id on, I know for a fact he would be out and away to pastures new so fast and there are roads and side-roads and a maze of streets and........not going to think about it anymore!

Thank goodness all three are ok! That's my biggest fear, someone (usually a workman) forgetting to shut/lock the gates! Cody and Star are chipped and wear their collars all day, just in case! And I'm not surprised they weren't inclined to venture far from home! They're living the good life!

Sooo glad your babies made it right back home!! I know I would have def. been a complete wreck. Your right about the tags. One day when I was volunteering at the humane society this guy tells me he doesn't keep tags on his dogs, because they have chips. I told him that the humane society is a non-profit organization and couldn't afford the scanner for the chips!! So without tags his dogs would have gone into adopttion or worse!! So even if they have chips or tattoes I would always keep tags on my pets.

That's my biggest fear, in my back yard. Right after I bought my house and got owen it happened to a friend. The gas company left the gate open. My friends dog got out, and hit by a car....
After that I put up a beware of dog sign, and a padlock. Service companies have to call me when they want to come into my back yard...

I would just like to add a side note - if you have the ID tags with phone numbers on it, make sure that you put the area codes as well. If you ever travel with your dogs (as many of us do) it may be a godsend.

Ours do have the area code...we actually have to dial it for local calls...and they are microchipped, but the tags are quicker and easier..chips are back-up in case they loose the collar.

I'm so glad they're all safe and sound. It's a horrible feeling when one of them gets out even for a few seconds.

I remember when we were going in the car just from a vet apointment and his collar was too loose so he slipped out. My mom put it on..so she didn't know how tight. at first he ran towards a VERY busy road, but I think it was his fear of cars that made him run the other way. I had to trick him into thinking I had a treat for him to get him to sit and carry him back. Just another example that basic obedience (even sit) is important to teach.

I know I would have, I remember last year when I came home & they were in the middle of the street At least your 3 had the sense to stay together in their own yard

O.K. Kid, I talked to you twice last night and you never told me about this. Afraid Grandma would get mad about their mother "losing" the grandkids? Afraid I'd sue for custody?

As you know, my own dogs have "escaped" from time to time and although they all have ID tags on them, it is still scary because a lot of people ignor dogs either because they are scared of them or because they just aren't thinking that maybe they "got" away and the owners aren't aware of it and are frantically looking for them.

And, of course, I can't really say much because there was that time in the store, when your dad thought I had you 3 kids and I thought he had you........how embarassing to hear over the pa system that your kids are at the service desk.... I guess we should have had collars with id tags for you too LOL

But your close call brings home that I really must get after your dad to do something about the storm doors so Snoopy and Jack can't just "break" out!!!

Mine have never gotten out when I didn't know about it, but having two gates that cannot been seen from the door where I let them out, it is a worry.

The most unusual way my dogs have gotten out was when they and I were in the garage, on our way back into the house, and I put my hand out to steady myself against the wall so I could remove the boots I had on....and I accidently leaned on the button for the garage door opener. The garage door started up and they zipped out before it reached 3 feet.

I am so loathe to start a new thred, BUT, guess who got his ID tag STUCK in the floor grate today? Yup, the lughead, Mr. Binx. I wondered why he was lying so strangely, when it seemed like he wanted to get up....I had to take the collar off of him, remove the grate, and pull the collar through the other way.

Think IDs are necessary in the house?
