beware of cat furniture

while the humans are away.......the cats will play!

we came home this afternoon, and after being home a while, I realized the kitty tower was on its side, the way I put it when I throw the sheet over it for them to play. but I didn't put it like that!

I had to think... then I remembered that I had seen them climbing it before leaving the house.

they knocked it over!! oh my God then I saw the valance above the glass door, it was all messed up! one of them tried to jump up there or maybe when they jumped back, and the tower fell! one of them could have been seriously hurt or killed, if it fell on them! they have all eaten and played and seem to be fine, but I wonder if one of them maybe could have some bleeding internally? do you think that could happen if they seem ok? or would they be acting hurt? no one is limping, they all seem fine.
damn, just what I need, like I don't have enough to worry about.

should I call the vet?

beware of any cat furniture you have, that this doesn't happen to your cats. mine are just too wild!

OMG TC!! Sounds like your kitties may have had a few of their friends over!

LOL Actually, I would just keep an eye on them for anything out of the ordinarary. I'm sure they are fine, if not a bit startled from knocking that tree over! If they look like normal, then they're probably ok. Cats are pretty quick to respond to situations (usually) and more than likely avoided having something fall on them, if that's what you're worried about. **hugs** Might have to glue that tree to the floor...or tell your furkids not to have their friends over while you're not home

I have heard that cats who are sick or hurt hide. So if your cats are out and about -- they should be fine!

That happens at our house too....thank goodness we have a short one still...

They sell these extenders online at Drs. Foster & Smith. They anchor the tall cat trees to the ceiling. Would that help?

Luckily my cat furniture stays put, but they do love to turn the cat bed inside out!

I store cases of cat food and extra litter boxes on the bottom shelf of my cat tree, though come to think of it the fur-kids have 'tamed down' a lot in the last year or so. I don't remember the tree rocking since they were high-flying kittens...

Yes...scared me to death-right after Ritz had her spay surgery, she attempted to jump up to the top of her living room cat tree, which is sitting on top of a very heavy and large cement crock. She was stiff and sore and just didn't quite make it, pulling the whole thing down on top of her....almost..., I had stepped out of the room for just a minute and got back in just in time to catch the toppling tree!~

I am now very careful to make sure these are well anchored somehow...when I shop for new ones, I test them for "teeterability"....could an almost 15lb kitty knock this over? I have a new tree that had to be "shored up" on the sides - the first thing Ritz did was knock it over...hmmm..no wonder it was on sale so cheap!!! (notice the computer bag "holding itup"

the toppling over , reminded me of once when I was babysitting my then 8 month old nephew...he crawled to where his highchair was, in the living room, I had put him there to eat so auntie could watch tv while she fed him!!(lazy aunt) later he was crawling around and tried to use that to pul himself up! I was sitting right there next to it and thank god I saw it from the corner of my eye and grabbed it!whew

my cat cookie, the day we got her or the day after, she was just 10 weeks old, and had been spayed a week or 2 before, already! she climbed that 6ft tower like it was nothing! then she would just jump straight down, no stepping on lower levels for her! anyway, it caused her to have a flabby tummy when she grew older, that would shake when she ran! it was really funny to watch!

I am going to weight the tower down today..

glad i read about all this.....i have a wicker piece the cats looove to jump up on and i have had a little concern.....i think i will move it to a place unavailable to the cats.....it is a worry.....i wouldnt want my boys to get hurt!

We just bought our kitties a new condo/tree for Christmas, and it was very unbalanced. I was sure they would turn it over in no time as well .... so hubby found a stud in the wall and ran a big nail through the condo into the wall stud! Now it is sturdy and "safe"!!!? (we hope)
