    R.I.P. my dear Grandkitty Sades

It was with a very heavy heart that we had to put my son's cat, my Grandkitty, Sades, to sleep this morning. He had just turned 6 years old last May and seemed so healthy up until last week.

Sades had a very enlarged heart and quite a bit of fluid around it and the lungs. I asked the vet how come this had gone undetected by my vet last week and he said that he most likely didn't hear anything then, but since we didn't know exactly how Sades fell, that it was possible the fall made it worse. He said a lot of technical stuff but that was about it in a nutshell. We both didn't question ourselves for our decision because this vet was SO informative in showing us what a normal cats heart & lungs looked like and when he showed us Sades x-rays, WOW could you ever see the difference. His heart was so much larger that it's a wonder it didn't explode and so much liquid. Poor baby. He also talked to us that it could be his thyroid, or this or that and putting him through all kinds of tests and then possibly having to see a specialist to do his own tests, he really believed that in the end nothing really could be done for him, because usually at this late stage of congestive heart failure the animal doesn't have long to go. The vet also said that he usually doesn't see a heart that enlarged at Sades age of 6, but in cats ages 10-12 years. So we felt since Sades was such an active and happy cat that rather put him through all that just so we can have him for another 6 months or less, it made our decision just a tiny bit easier.
I'm doing okay. I"m trying to be strong for my son as he is not coping too well. He is a very sensitive guy when it comes to animals and this is his first time having to put an animal to sleep.
Here are a few pictures of my son, Eric, with his special boy Sades.

Rest in Peace our sweet Sades and have fun on the RB. You were so loved and will never be forgotten.
Say hi to Katie for me and tell her I still miss her very much.

Oh goodness, that's what I'm experiencing w/Pidgelet right now. Thyroid problems can contribute to congestive heart failure but cats are so good at masking illness that sometimes by the time they exhibit symptoms, it's too late. You did everything that you could to keep Sades comfortable and you're right to not question your decision. Sades is now at peace and it will come to you soon as well. I'm so sorry for your loss, your pain and your son's loss of his little buddy.
    Blessings,
    Mary

RIP Sades - play at the Bridge just like you were a kitten again.
Peace to you and your son, and be comforted in knowing that you did what was best for Sades.
