I was very surprised when I heard this last night. That is very sick. Those poor animals. The PACCA should be ashamed of themselves.
Thank you so much for my siggy, kittycats_delight!

What you said Kittygurl. They should be ashamed of themselves. Patting themselves on the back as they "count" the number of animals saved, even when they died. Those poor babies.

    Sad but not totally surprising.

This, or any other rescue/shelter, starts out wanting to do nothing but good for the animals. Then the medical bills for them start piling up (spays/neuters/medicine) the cost of litter/food/bowls/etc pile up also. Adoption rates are low because it takes both money and volunteers to properly advertise the animals. Next thing you know they start finding abandon puppies/kittens at their doorstep from someone not even caring enough to wait until opening hours. They can't bear to turn anyone away needing their help.

Next thing you know it's overcrowded conditions, multiple animals in wall to wall cages, doesn't take much for an infection or disease to run through the place not having any room for quaranteen spaces. Area vets are no longer willing to donate so much of their time for free to keep up with the mini zoo, and most vets/pet stores will no longer offer credit for purchases because of unpaid bills.

I'm not saying that was the situation with this particular agency, it's very possible there was something 'funny' going on behind the scenes with the money/management.

I'm just pointing out that MANY shelters/rescues end up in situations just like this. While their initial goal was to help the animals, by them being unable/unwilling to say no occasionally and getting in over their heads, they end up causing almost as much harm as good.
