    Kammisar

Kammisar was a mixed breed dog I had around 1979 or so. I was about 14-15 years old. Our neighbor's dog had gotten pregnant and she gave me pick of the litter. Thinking back now, they were taken from their mama way too soon. I chose Kammisar because of his cute, half tail. He was the runt of the litter. I fed him from a medicine dropper until he was old enough to eat regular dog food. He was my dog but my dad got really fond of him, as well. I was a cat person at the time. Didn't realize how great dogs were back then (Duke showed me later on in life) If anyone has any guesses on what kind of dog he was, I'd love to know. We had a huge back yard with an above ground pool. That dog was such a character. Anytime he wanted to go swimming, he'd just climb the ladder and do it whenever he wanted. I wish we'd gotten a pic of that but we didn't. There are very few of him, actually. Mom has been cleaning a bit now. It's been hard on her, losing dad. She was going through some of his things. He had this thing on his dresser that held change, envelopes, etc. Mom found these pics in it. I had no idea he even had them. Kammisar was only a couple of years old when he died very sadly. The same neighbor that had given him to us was the cause of his death, in a way. Another neighbor had seen her teen son lift Kammisar over our fence and turn him loose. Then they called animal control. They picked him up and gave dad a citation. So, we had this huge fenced in yard and then couldn't even let our dog play in it. Dad had started chaining him up on the opposite side of the evil neighbor. We had a side garage door there, also. Dad had the window open on it one day. Kammisar jumped through it and ended up hanging himself because of that witch. Dad was the one that found him. It hurts so much, especially now that I know just how great dogs are. Not that I didn't love him before. I adored him. I always knew dad was a sensitive person but I don't think I knew just how sensitive until mom showed me those pics. It must have tortured him all that time. I hope he, Duke and Kammisar are all together now.

Sorry it's so long but I couldn't just put the pics up without the story. On with the pics.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.

Oh how heartbreaking...what is wrong with people. That boy is probably in jail somewhere for hurting a human. I don't see a picture?

He loved to play basketball. Wasn't he a doll?

This is blurry but shows him running with it.

He would also get drinks from the sprinklers when he was thirsty

Here he is swimming. How he loved that pool

I love this one. I wish his ears weren't cut off.

One day, we'll all meet up again. At least for now, he's running free in the biggest yard ever, with no fences or chains.

guess I need to be more patient

He looks a lot like my childhood dog Ranger who I always figured was a german shepherd/ husky mix.

That must have been very hard on your Father.

He was a very handsome boy. And it looks like he knew how to enjoy himself in his short life.

The eyes and the tail say Norwegian Elkhound to me, which was probably as popular back then as the keeshond once was. Whatever he was, he sure was handsome. Thanks for sharing, even though the story had a sad ending, its always nice to share memories of a beloved pet.

I agree that he could probably have been Norwegian Elkhound or Keeshond mixed.

Shep and husky are more likely though.

Please, if your dog is arthritic look into getting it Elk Velvet Antler. Look up my posts on it, PM me, or look it up on a search engine; but please if you love your dog and want it to live many more years consider this option. I've seen so many posts on here about dogs needlessly suffering. I can't make a new post about EVA every time so this plea is going here. EVA also helps with other ailments such as anemia.

    Oh what a happy boy!
It's great that your mom found these pictures.

I'm sure he, Duke and your dad have become wonderful friends already!

I am in tears right now. I couldn't believe what you have gone through then. It had to be just horrible for you, your dog and Kammisar. I am so sorry about your dog. He looked like tons fun.

Val I could never even attempt a guess at what he was, only that he was very beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing that story with all of us. How awful for your dad, he really must have taken it very hard for him to have kept those pics all these years. I love the one of him in the pool....lol

His colouring make him look a lot like "The Littlest Hobo".. His tail is kind of interesting. Was he born like that, or did he loose it before you got him?
