Her long name is in my signature, her short name is Penny, and she is 3 years old. She has been a great mama dog from the beginning.

Yes, it is necessary. My puppies are docked anywhere from shortly after birth to 3 days of age. This litter was docked at 2 days of age, and at the same time had the rear dew claws removed which were present on about half of the litter.

As a member of the National Club, I will abide by our breed standard which states that the Rottweiler tail is docked short, close to the body leaving one or two vertebra.

I refuse to get into a public debate about whether anyone agrees with docking, nor will I try to convince anyone who feels it is cruel and barbaric otherwise. I WILL say that if one has not personally witnessed several litters being docked, then one should reserve comment. As long as docking is legal in this country, all my puppies will be docked. I have this information clearly on my website so that anyone who is interested in purchasing a puppy that does not have a docked tail can continue their search elsewhere.

If you want the real story on how docking makes puppies feel, look at the weight chart. Stressed upset puppies do not eat well and gain weight. This litter has not been supplemented AT ALL. You can see for yourself how they did from day 2 to day 3, they were docked early in the morning on day 2.

I was also wondering about the docking (no offense), it's just that I'm surprised how different the breed standards are in different counties. It was a common thing here, too, in earlier years, that's why Rocky was still docked (born 1994), but after that, it became illegal here in Germany, that's why Emma has her tail. And it looks beautiful IMO! At first, people used to say "a rottie with a tail looks ridiculous", but I don't think so. Emma's tail makes her look very elegant and ladylike.

RE: docking elsewhere, and even in the US, what one breeder decides to do is of course, their business. I am not bothered by seeing Rotties with tails, altho it is more unusual to see them in the US than in some other countries where docking has been completely outlawed.

Eyes are opening on several of the puppies today, I promise updated photos later.

Don't take offence to the breeders reply, I'm sure they have been flamed before & tend to get defensive on the topic.. there have been MANY docking wars on here in the past...
