I wouldn't worry too much abou small variations in their poop. If it's soft-ish one day and hard-ish the next, it's most likely nothing to worry about. I can't really tell you specifically what each texture MEANS, but I can tell you Jasper's poop gets a little soft if he gets extra treats or if he gest into something fatty, and it gets hard if he eats a lot of bones.

Things to be concerned about are things that are really unusual, like diarrhea, constipation, or stools that have mucus in or on them. (This does just happen occasionally, but if you see it a lot it can be cause for concern)

    Thank you Wolf_Q!

    Poop

The only thing I know about poop is to look out for diarrhea, mucus, and blood. And worms. I don't know anything about the poop itself, but so long as it's not runny, red/black, or contains mucus, it should be okay. I agree with the variations of food changing the texture of poop (I think I'm working towards a back-yard degree in dog poop).

Yeah, variation is normal. Think about it, us humans get variation in our stools too even when there is nothing wrong with us. It's just one of those things.

Obviously, the it's like water and keeps coming out like that or had blood/mucus whatever, then it needs to be addressed but, otherwise, don't worry.

Sometimes, all it takes is for the dog to be slightly stressed out by something. Adrenalin can cause stools to be loose. My dads greyhounds pass these loose stools after they have just had a run. It just causes food to be rushed through the digestive system faster than usual which is why it comes out as diarrhea. Thinking about it, when I am stressed, the same thing happens to me.
Another possible thing is dogs who pick stuff up when out on walks. Sometimes, they might eat something that upsets them slightly but it's usually nothing major.
Dogs are not our whole lives but they make our lives whole.
