11 Yr. Old Dog Needs Home Badly

A lady called me asking if I could take in her 11 yr old Shepherd/Lab mix. Her two year old son is very allergic to the dog and has to use a breathing machine due to his allergy. I can only put the dog into temporary foster care at one of our foster homes. This dog needs a forever home. His name is Rusty and he came to us tonight around 8:00pm CST. He will stay here tonight and go to his foster home tomorrow. I did not want him here due to the parvo that was here a month ago, but I had no choice. I can not get him to his foster mom till tomorrow evening due to her schedule and if I did not take him tonight, he would of gone to a pound.

I know his age is against him, but he is a wonderful dog. He is very handsome and tall. He is house broken. Rusty is neutered and up to date on shots. He is also tested negative for heartworms. Rusty has never been in a kennel or cage. He knows the commands of sit, lay down, stay, and come. He is leash trained, good with kids and dogs. He is a little shy around cats but does not chase them. He may only have a couple of years in him or maybe up to 5, we don't know. What we do know is he needs a home fast.

If anybody can help with this guy, please PM me. If you have any info on Senior Dog Rescues or a rescue that may take him, please lt me know. I already contacted the German Shepherd Rescue of Chicago, still no response. Young At Heart replied saying they are full. But they will post him on their Petfinder site. I emailed some others, and no respose as of yet. Any suggestions are welcome.

Here are some pictures of him. Please help him if you can. Thank you fellow PTers.

Oh, I so wish I was close enough to help.
I hope you can help (and I'm sure you will) Rusty find a good home.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

Thank you for your kind words, I will surely do everything in my power to find him a loving home to retire in.

Rusty smiles ALL the time!! He is very young at heart. I was worried he wouldn't do well with my dogs, but he plays great...and loves to do laps around the living room!! I just hope somebody can give him a chance.

I wish I could take him! I would in a heartbeat. I hope someone can open their heart and home to him.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

Oh Tracy you are doing such a great thing by helping this old guy! I'm sure he'll thank you for it! I wish I could help, but as you know I have Bruce right now. If you get him to an adoptive home or rescue this way give me a buzz. I'll be more than happy to help with transport!

Thank you Lexie for offering to help with a transport. I will let you know. So far he is doing great though.

Our foster home fell through for the time being, so it looks like I have no choice but to keep him here for a while...though I wish I didn't have to. He is a really good dog. Very sweet and affectionate. I hope somebody realizes that and takes him in.

Maybe try to keep him away from where the other puppies were. In hopes he doesn't get parvo too.

It is hard to keep him away from where the pups where at. They where all over the first couple of days until I noticed the signs of Parvo. So far (knock on wood) Scruff and Dozer are okay, so hopefully he will be too. Rusty mainly stays in our room, he likes our bed!! All I can do is hope and pray all will be okay.
