I've often wondered how many of us have lived on our own before marriage
or meeting a significant other? Also if they really felt comfortable doing so.

I have, but only briefly. I loved it! I had my first living alone experience after marriage, though. If you'll notice a thread I posted about being afraid of the dark when I'm alone, that always took an effort on my part! But, I did become more at ease with it. I loved being in my own place, with no distractions. (In that I mean, I get more stuff done if I don't have someone there...I hate doing stuff like laundry or dishes if my boyfriend is home, for example!) But, that being said, I love living with someone who is respectful and understands the need for some down time and alone time.I like my living arrangement a lot!

No but I'm heading to Alaska in about 4 months and will live on my own for the first time! I going for a four month internship with a Mesuem of National history. 4 MONTHS!I've never lived on my own. Guess I'll let you know if I liked it or not when I get back.

I was on my own for about 8 years between college and when I got married. I don't remember exactly, but I would say maybe five of those I had a roommate and for three I lived alone. Being entirely self supporting was an excellent experience and one I would not trade for anything. I even enjoyed living alone. That said, I don't want to do it again at this later stage in my life. If anything happened to my husband, I would definitely want to find someone with whom to share a home.

I've lived on my own since 1990 and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!! There's no way I would ever live with anyone again.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

I absolutely LOVED living alone. I didn't realize how MUCH I loved it, until I tried living with someone else.
I love my husband, don't misunderstand ... but there are times I truly wished I still lived alone.

I had my own apartment for about a year before Eric and I moved in together. It had advantages, but the apartment didn't allow pets and I don't like being without one. I went out a lot with friends and didn't spend a lot of time there.
I like having time to myself, but I prefer living with someone. Eric and I have pretty different schedules, so we mainly see each other only on the weekends...if I didn't have my pets, I would feel kind of lonely, especially during the winter months when it's not that pleasant to be outside.
I totally understand! Stuart always bugs me about how much I enjoy it when he's away for a few days! I wouldn't want him not to come home again, but I love a brief break. I'm quite sure he enjoys it just as much when I go away for a bit! Except that he has to do all the critter chores! He normally does none of their day to day care so he gets a bit whiny about that!Originally Posted by Twisterdog

I've never lived on my own, but I'm considering moving out of the 'rents house sometime soon.

I lived alone for around 3 years before I moved in with Alexa and I LOVED it. It was so hard for me to give up my place and move in with someone. However now I'm enjoying always having her around. The nice thing though is that we each have our own private areas. The upstairs bedroom is where I spend most of my time alone and she spends most of her time in the downstairs master bedroom. Because of my work schedual it's easier for us to have seperate bedrooms. We still sleep together at night, but when I wake up at 3:30 a.m. to get ready for work I just have to go upstairs and not worry about waking her up.
