    OK, Explain this!

I was doing some gardening, and I let my cat out to play. He was digging around in the sand which he does sometimes and then he dug a deep hole. I thought he might be going to pee, but he put his back feet in the hole and just hung out there. When I looked in the hole, he hadn't covered it up and there was an impression of his feet and legs.

It's the old "build a nest and snuggle down low to keep hidden" instinct. Chestnut does it, once he is finish nibbling on catnip outdoors.
