    Charity Blasts Doggone Thieves

    http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/Alberta/...1/2186792.html

Some people really make me sick. This is about a thief in Calgary, AB who stole donations from a car that were for The Alberta Guide Dog Services. Why people steal in teh first place is beyond me but to steal form a charity. Arrrgggg. Service Dogs are not cheap to raise and train. Even when you do Owner Training like I did it is still expensive. This is just so wrong.

    Charity blasts doggone thieves
    By SARAH KENNEDY
    Calgary Sun, October 31, 2006

A Calgary charity is livid after a callous crook stole from the blind.

Alberta Guide Dog Services spokeswoman Susan Deike said today about 20 of
their donation cans were stolen from an employee's car parked at the
    Foothills hospital on Saturday.

"You hear about these things happening all the time but when it happens to
you, it really hurts," said Deike.

Deike said the employee was bringing the money to the charity office and
had the cans hidden in his car under a blanket.

When he returned to his vehicle, he noticed his doors were unlooked and
    he money was gone.

"He was so upset," she said.

"We keep telling him it's not his fault."

Deike said there is no way the thief didn't know the money was for charity
as the cans were plastered with the organizations name, along with pictures
    of guide dogs.

"We're just blown away by this," she said.

Each can only contains about $30 and Deike estimates they lost about $700 - probably not even worth the hassle for the crook, she added.

"I hope they enjoy paying for their purchases with a lot of pennies, nickels
    and dimes," she said.

Although the amount wasn't significant, Deike said the organization, that
breeds and trains guide dogs for the blind, will feel the affect.

"The money helps pay rent for the Calgary office," she said.

"Now we'll have to find money for rent out of other donations and that's
not really fair because that money is used for training and feeding the dogs."

The organization, which has been operating in B.C. for 10 years, just
    moved to Calgary in January.

"I really feel bad for the people who make the donations," she said.

"They feel good about it and this takes away from that."

It costs about $40,000 and two years of training to produce one guide dog

    How very tragic!!!

The thief had to know that the donations were in that car, and this story makes me feel so sorry for the person who was going to present it to the Guide Dog Service. They suffered such a loss~~~~~

When I stop and think about it, I start to feel a bit sorry for the thief, for he/she is actually very blind indeed.
