Do you call them Crates or Kennels?

What you put your dog in when you leave him home alone. I was just discussing this with someone. It's funny because originally animals were transported in real crates with holes. That's basically what my cousins' cats came over when they moved to the US from England in. A kennel is traditionally made out of wire. For these reasons, I call them all CRATES, but I have heard many people refer to the original crate as a kennel!

    B.

To be honest, I always call all types kennels. I think it sounds better and it's what I'm used to. Until I joined PT, I never even heard of anyone calling them a crate...lol. On messageboards I call them crates now though, as that's what the majority of people use it seems and once when I called it a kennel somebody didn't have a clue what I was talking about.

Forgot to add, I'd call 'C' a dog run, not a kennel or a crate.

Also, when I'm telling my dogs to get in their kennel I just say "Go to bed".

I call B a Kennel. I call all large or outdoor cages Kennels. I call her small, indoor crate " The Box" ( Because they resemble boxes !!! )

On message boards I usually call "em crates/cages.

    I call "A" a cage

    I call "B" a carrier (smaller ones) or a veri-kennel (brand name)

I call "C" an outdoor run.

But at work, we have both "A" and "B" and when I talk to the dogs, I say "go in the BED".

    A. Is a crate
    B. Is a pet taxi (aka port-a-prison)
    C. A dog run

To me, a crate is a "thing" and a kennel is a "place" to board (outside of the home).

    A and B are crates, C is a kennel!

Even though at my house, when I want a dog to go in his/her crate, I tell them to 'get in yer house' or 'go to bed!' And when I put Jack in the outdoor kennel when we go to school I tell him to 'Kennel up!'

So most of you are in agreement with me and my family. Niņo's command is "Crate time"

    A and B are crates/cages and C is a kennel.

When people say "My dog is in the kennel." I always think of large kennels that take care of peoples animals while they are away and these are usually huge so I just called them that. A dog run to me is a temporary pen in the backyard or something.

A and B are crates & C is a dog run. A kennel here in Australia is usually a wooden dog house for outside use.

Oh, A disappeared, so I voted incorrectly. The last option is correct, IMHO

I typically refer to crates as being meant for indoors and kennels for outdoors. When someone says kennel I think large and outdoor.

    A isn't working, but I would call B a crate, and C a kennel.
