    for whom the bell tolls?

    Ed's not happy
    I can tell,
    His collar broke
    He has no bells!

    ED:

The manly collar around my neck.
Dad did break it when he checked
he tired to comb out and tried to care
For my furry tuft of lion's hair.

In a posted picture people point and shout
That the bells did look like my "down and outs"
No, you sillies those were taken,
long before I learned to shake 'em.

The bells that rang around my neck
Were placed there so my dad could check
My location and trouble I could find!
As long as I wore them, he didn't mind.

    From Barcelona, down to Quito!
    I travel quietly, incognito!
Finding me now is a little test!
I hide real good or try my best!

I lurk and prowl without noise
I've learned to shake my Daddy's poise!
And because the bells no longer bind
and I'm not reminded of what hung down behind.

Dad patrols the house at night
as I quietly hide, close, out of sight!
This new life is really swell
now that I've been relieved of my bells!

You silly humans thinking in sin...
Not THOSE bells, the set under my chin!
I no longer have any orbs that dangle.
Fore or aft under my hairy tangles!

So let you kitties not be wrecked
with collars , tags and bells about their neck
Get real modern and go real hip!
And get your cat a MICROCHIP!
The secret of life is nothing at all

Well Max has no bells, no balls, no collar, no microchip.
But with eleven hundred square feet, he feel really hip.

OK, it's truly time for me to go to bed now...
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

Richard, that has got to be one of your best! I love it!

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

That was great! Have you ever considered publishing some of your cat poetry?

Ding ding....and in the BLUE CORNER...

    Weighing in at 13 pounds.....The California Crusher....Edward D Katz!!!

As I thought, "i'm doing swell"
Dad buys another collar with bell!
I sniff the nylon and shoot him a look
and then we fight, while it's almost hooked.

I swipe at him, extended claws.
    Daddy reels, then the pause!
"come on Ed, just be a saint?"
    "Wear a bell? Oh no, I ain't!"

Just get closer, your skin I'll rent.
Go get a refund of the money you spent.
No collar for me, around my short neck.
I'll scratch you good, your hand I willl wreck.

The bells rings again, it now round 2
We size each other up-like a boxing duo.
He feints to the right I go to the left.
On his index finger a new bloody cleft.

Round 3 starts of this titanic match
I roll to my back, now he's gotta catch
me in a clench, I'll go down swinging
another cut, I hope he is stinging.

Round 4 is here, I've almost won.
But here is the part, that's even more fun.
I've stood my ground, I've given no quarter.
This moron just bought a collar that is shorter!

It looks like I've gone and won this short fight.
That collar don't fit, it's just way too tight!
I'll taken on the challengers, and when I feel the need
I'll bite and i'll scratch, then I will make him bleed!

Now that I've won, I'm gonna have a snooze
and not even think that I'll ever lose.
Now you all think that I am a sinner...
But I'd rather be known as the Heavy Weight Winner!!!!

    AND STILL WORLD CHAMPION...
