Maybe if we want to try recipes and can't find ingredients, the recipe poster can suggest substitutes. Or maybe we can mail non-perishable ingredients to each other! I am still trying to work out what Mrs Dash is

Flemish sounds fun too, post away Lut!

Here's a recipe you can try for Christmas! I got it from a friend in England. It's quite easy!

Warning! Don't even look at it, if you want to slim!

    Chocolade Truffles

100 g Valhrona chocolade (or other good chocolade)
    50 g unsalted butter
    2 egg yolks
    6+ tablespoons icing sugar
flavouring (e.g. Grand Marnier, Tia Maria, Rum)
coatings (e.g. icing sugar, choc strands, cocoa powder)

Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Cream together the butter, icing sugar, egg yolks and flavouring (if used). Add the melted chocolate and beat until mixed and a fairly firm consistency, adding more icing sugar if necessary. Put in a dish and leave to cool and set - I put mine in a shallow dish in the fridge for an hour. Once set, form into balls and roll them in the coatings. This is the messy and time-consuming part of the process.

    Enjoy!

I have some great recipes that I would love to share, but all my cooking is low fat and low calories. Would they still be welcomed here?

Karen, do you make non-instant oatmeal? How do you prepare it? I've read that you can do it in the slow cooker, but when I've tried I end up with a pasty, gloppy mess. I like to eat breakfast foods for supper and instant oatmeal is one of my favorites because it's hot and fast.

    Thank you,

I usually make instant oatmeal, but also have made regular oatmeal in the microwave, follow the directions n the Quaker Oats container, and adding in raisins, brown sugar and cinnamon - yum! And doesn't take very long!

    1/2 Cup of Oats
    1 3/4 cup of water
5 shakes of cinnamon or so
    1 tablespoon brown sugar
    a handful of raisins
    1 dash of salt

Put all in a microwave-safe bowl, store, microwave for 1-2 minutes, then stir again, and let cool for a minute so you don't burn your mouth then enjoy!

I made a beer can chicken last night and it was the best one yet.

I have a holder that I bought someplace that is a basic wire cage, that I put on a cookie sheet - you can look up "beer can chicken roaster' and see different models, some are like small bundt cake pans that will catch all the juice from the chicken as it cooks.

(the drippings make a good treat for a dog - mixed into a dry plate of food!)

You can use beer, water or stock in the can, I shoved a few celery stalks, dill and water into the can along with the giblets..

I washed and used a paper towel to dry off the bird - here you can take some salt, pepper or whatever seasoning you like and put it into the cavity of the bird - then grab some oil - your choice- and rub the outside of the bird and before you put the bird on the beercan stand, sprinkle the skin with your choice of dried herbs......I used a garlic/rosemary seasoning. Stand the bird up and put the holder on a cookie sheet.

Check the bird to make sure he won't flop over - because I don't have a simple BC holder, I have to put it on a cookie sheet to catch the drippings - I would put ANY holder on a sheet, just in case.

Preheat the oven to 375 and roast that sucker for about 2.5 hours.

    ------

When you pull him out, let it rest for a few minutes - you may not have to carve him up - the bird fell apart rather easily.

    Then enjoy.

(IF you like the crispy skin of a chicken make sure that you carve him up, that way you can lay claim to the best part of the the bird.......)

Hehe I didn't think about that when I started this thread up! Mrs. Dash is a medley of spices in one shaker. Nicole if you want some I can mail it to you with your Christmas card.. I don't think it would perish and the container in very small.

and I was hoping for all kinds of recipes.. we have so many different backgrounds on this one board, it would be so fun to have all different types of dishes!! Please post Lut, and please post the low-fat ones too, Souraya!! ANY recipe, as long as it's edible!!

    My Personal Fav.

Cheesy Chicken Spaghetti (serves 8 or more)

    Ingredients:
    1 stick of Margarine
1/2 cup each of celery, onion, & green pepper
    5-6 chick breasts (boneless preferred)
1 can of Cream of Celery soup
1 can of Cream of Mushroom soup
1 can of Cream of Chicken soup
    1 can of Rotel tomatoes
1 small jar of Cheese Whiz
    2 cup of Grated cheese
    16 oz of Spaghetti

    Directions:

    1.) Boil chicken until tender
2.) Cook spaghetti in chicken broth (drain like regular spaghetti)
3.) Sauté onion, celery, & green pepper in margarine.
4.) Mix in soups, tomatoes, & Cheese Whiz
5.) Add in chicken and spaghetti
6.) Place in baking dish (we have to use 2 baking dishes)
7.) Spinkle grated cheese on top & bake at 350 degrees until it bubbles
    8.) ENJOY!

    It's really good!
