Spencer nervously sat on the couch and told Erica and Jeremy to find Matthew.
“Do you need help with anything?” he asked.
“Spence, I am making dinner for YOU. Chill out, watch some TV, something.
Or come sit in the kitchen and we can talk, whatever.” I said. I shook my head.
Way to sound obvious, Kyla.
Spencer came into the kitchen and sat on the barstool across from where I
was heating up the food. With my back to him, I smiled. Our first date. Spencer
looked around the kitchen, then spoke.
“Why’d you invite me to dinner?” He asked. ‘Because I love you,’ I
thought. Not the right thing to say.
“Oh, because.” I said. I bit my tounge. ‘Don’t say anymore, Kyla! You’re
pushing it already!’
“Because why?” he asked. I rolled my eyes. I knew that was coming.
“Because I can.” I said and laughed. Spencer let out a quiet laugh.
“I guess I owe you back then. Dinner at my house tomorrow, if you
aren’t busy.”
“Well, I have to babysit everyone tomorrow. And if Mom isn’t fired by then,
I’d have to take everyone with me.” I said. Without realizing it, I slammed the
spoon into the bowl.
“Fired? What are you talking about?” Spencer asked. Great. I didn’t want
to talk about this right now.
“Nothing. We can talk about it later, okay?” I said, biting my lip again.
That was really a habit that needed to be broken.
Spencer didn’t say anything, until a few seconds later.
“Okay, later. Promise?” he said.
“Promise. But don’t say anything to anyone. I don’t know for sure if she’s
going to get fired. Just a... premonition.”
