    Hi all!

Well, we are home after our trip to Burnaby. I have heard from the vet, and I have an appointment this afternoon to take Bassett in and see if she needs her chest drained again, and also to discuss all the results from the tests and our options from here. There is a drug we can try (I don't know how to spell it but it's pronounced like "Rootin" or the vet has said there are surgical options. So today I will have the chance to go in and see what the best plan of action is.

Other than that, Bassett is doing well. She was a VERY good girl for the ultrasound procedure.. I couldn't believe she was so well behaved. Maybe she FINALLY gets that we are doing this for her own good! Anyhow, I will let everyone know how things look after I've talked to the vet today.

Thank you all again for your continued support. It's a huge comfort!

For now, we are going to try the Rutin. It's an herbal drug, so there aren't really any side effects if it doesn't work. She is going in on Wednesday to have her chest drained again, even though I know she hates it it's for her own good. So that's all for now - hopefully this new drug will help stop the fluid from going in her chest.

Naomi- when you say chest drained, do you mean Bassett's lungs? Or are you meaning the chest cavity? What will the herbabl drug do? I am curious to learn about Bassett's condition. Though, the best part has already been answered- Bassett is getting better!!!

This drug is supposed to lessen the amount of fluid produced - in some cases stop it all together, and it breaks down the fatty component of the fluid, making it easier to absorb and not stay in the chest. From what I understand, the fluid is in the chest cavity, not the lungs. Here are a couple of websites Ive found about the disease:

    http://www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/chylothorax.html
    http://rev.tamu.edu/stories/02/091902-3.html
    http://www.acatclinic.com/library/CHYLO.htm

Hopefully those sites will help clear up the situation more. I will try and find a site explaining the surgical option more after I read what the vet gave me.
