My darling dog died on Monday from Aflatoxin poisoning. He was only 6 years old. I am totally devastated & heartbroken. I was wondering if any others have had to deal with this tragedy & how they are handling it. Yhank you.

(((hugs))) How awful and sad. I lost my sweet Rosie girl almost two years ago because she was hit by a truck. She was only three. I found it very hard to deal with, as it was so unexpected, like your loss is. It helped to talk to people, many of them shared stories of their pets, too. I have to say it took a very long time to get through the grief. I wrote poems to her and planted a tree with some of her ashes under it. I call it my Rosie Tree, and it's a comfort just to go out and touch it and talk to her there. After several months, we adopted a new dog and he has helped my heart to heal. I hope you can just hang on through this, someday it will be better.

I'm very sorry to hear about your dog. I don't have any knowledge of aflatoxin, but it's so hard to lose a friend and I'm sorry.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I can't believe that this is happening, I've heard that over 100 dogs have died from this already. Unfortunatly some people aren't hearing about the recall and don't know to stop feeding the product to their dogs.

My thoughts are with you during this difficult time, I know how hard it is to lose a beloved friend.

    Sorry for your loss

I am sorry for your loss. This whole situation is shocking. The victims weren't doing anything wrong. I am sure you feel a bit of "survivor's guilt". I couldn't imagine losing an animal this way.
However, you may want to be more active to prevent or justify your loss. I would suggest contacting the company if you haven't already. Also, make sure your vet has any proof/samples possibly needed. Do you still have any of that food leftover? You may need this for "evidence".
I have not heard anything about the Diamond Dog food's committment for compensating or dealing with anyone who has lost their pet due to this tragedy. The last I heard there were atleast over 20 dog deaths associated with this. That will possibly mean a class action lawsuit for you to pursue.
I wish you the best of luck. Please adopt again as we do need more happy homes for our animals.
By the way... Cool screen name! I have a Scooby and Shaggy myself!

I'm so sorry. My brother and his Labs were among the lucky ones. He had food from Diamond that was included in the recall, but luckily, his dogs did not get sick. Thank God!

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I'm very sorry to hear what has happened. Fortunately we don't feed the food that was affected but I do know what it's like to suddenly loose one of your best friends

Brody's Mum is right, you are amongst friends and we're here if you need a shoulder to lean on.

I don't know if you'd be interested or not scoobysmom, but I received an email about this. I can email it to you if you'd like but here's a number and an excerpt they sent along with it...
According to Diamond, any unused portions of recalled pet food should be
returned to the retailer where it was purchased for a refund or replacement.
According to press reports, Diamond has also offered to compensate pet guardians
who can confirm that their pet died or became ill as a result of eating the
    contaminated food.

Diamond Pet Food is requesting that customers whose pets have become ill from
eating contaminated food contact the company through its online help form.

Customers can receive more information about the recall by calling the Diamond
Pet Foods Customer Information Center toll free at 1-866-214-6945. The
Information center is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to midnight EST.
