Received this from a friend - Worth the time to watch!

Just want to share the original report, as Snopes on internet says this is an "urban legend."

How awful, and they were trying to do something nice for their dogs that would help them stay healthy.

I love snopes, so I popped over and checked. Here is some of what he has to say:

A number of different pet products — from teeth-cleaning chews to doggie biscuits to chew toys — can potentially injure or sicken dogs under certain conditions and circumstances; we don't yet have enough information to know whether Greenies pose a greater than normal danger to dogs under ordinary use than other similar products, or whether we're just seeing a confluence of exceptional anecdotal reports.
He is quite fair. He doesn't say it is untrue or total myth, he simply offers as much evidence as he can from both sides, and then makes a fair judgement. He lists the status as "undetermined", not "false". Here's the whole link:

It also has the whole statement sent to the news station, which is worth a read.

I watched the video/report and it is very sad and a bit scary, but I really don't think they are necessarily stupid/irresponsible people. I have given my pups chews and then I often will read or work or watch TV. I'm home with them and in the same room, but I'm not actually watching every bite they take and even if I was if they suddenly bit off a bigger chunk than they should it could be swallowed before I could do anything about it. I've given greenies a couple times and they are very easy to bite chunks off, they are more a treat than a chew (such as bullies or bones) in my eye.

I do just think it's tragic, they are loving owners just wanting to spoil their furkids and give them a special treat and then that happens. The scary thing about some of those greenie type treats and similar things is if they chomp off too big a chunk and it swells some in their intestines, there's no way to know about it until it's too late. As the vet in the report said, dogs don't really CHEW their food per se before swallowing, not like a person does. Their jaws don't move side to side to grind things down. They may chomp some things into smaller pieces but not to the fine "mush" that we do before we swallow (sorry for the image there! ). Tasha chomps a bit but Tommy inhales his kibble without swallowing. I give them each a boiled egg sometimes, Tasha munches hers and Tommy swallows his whole lol.

Anyway, I honestly think with all the greenies given it probably IS a rare occurrance.. (the same thing can easily happen with rawhide too) but it's enough to make me nervous to risk it, you never know what may happen.

If someone's dog bites off a good sized chunk, most people can't get to their dog in time to get the piece out before it's swallowed, even if they are sitting right in front of it and staring at them while they are eating it. If a dog likes what it's chewing on he often will gulp it down even faster if he sees someone coming to take it away. I don't think it's irresponsible of the pet owners that their dogs got sick off of the Greenies. Any chews are unsafe in reality, even if you are sitting right there. It woudl be very easy for a dog to be chewing one and suddenly bite off a bigger chunk than intended and it gets swallowed. They don't really worry about chewing things into tiny pieces most of the time. They will swallow it to keep on chewing. The vet says she has seen several cases and that it wasn't digestible. Not every dog who eats a greenie will die, obviously, but some may. Lots of things are marketed as safe for dogs when they really aren't very good for them. Yes SOME people are irresponsible with their pets, and don't watch them, but even if those people had been watching them, there is no guarantee it still wouldn't have happened.

I just think it's sad that they tried to do something nice for thier pet and lost them over it.

Thanks Jess for the great sig of my kids!
