Police: 3 say they killed cat in park

The bloody remnants of an apparent animal sacrifice at a BREC park on Saturday and the discovery of drugs and alcohol nearby led to the arrests of two men and a woman.

One of the accused is free on bond, according to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison records. The suspects reside outside the parish, in Livingston and West Baton Rouge parishes.

Austin Jones, 18, 7870 Oakland Drive, Denham Springs; Misty Sanchez, 21, 2730 Live Oak, Brusly; and Ronnie Joseph Ford Jr, 25, 7895 Oakland Drive, Denham Springs; admitted to mutilating a cat that officers found in a nearby garbage can, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said Monday.

Uniform officers observed two vehicles parked in the rear of the parish Recreation and Park Commission Park at 8900 Old Hammond Highway about 1:45 a.m., McKneely said.

Since parking at a BREC park after hours is prohibited, the officers decided to investigate. They found three people dressed in black clothing, along with a large butcher knife and large amounts of blood and fur on one of the vehicles’ hood, he said.

One suspect also was covered in fur and blood and officers also found drugs and alcohol in both vehicles, McKneely said.
Visitors to the park on Monday expressed disgust at what police said occurred two days earlier.

Jerry Leggio, who lives in nearby Country Club Estates subdivision and was visiting the park with his grandchildren, said occurrences like that show how depraved the world is becoming.

“I hope they successfully prosecute those people,” he said.

Dave Besse, a business manager, said although he visits the park infrequently with his wife and children, he has never seen anything like animal sacrifices go on.

“I’m not judging one way or the other, but they shouldn’t do it in the park,” Besse said.

In recent months and years, local authorities have targeted BREC parks as sites for illegal sex acts involving both women and men.

Jones, Sanchez and Ford each were booked into Parish Prison on counts of criminal trespass, ritualistic acts, and aggravated cruelty to animals, police said.

Jones also faces counts of possession of alcohol.

Both Sanchez and Ford also face counts of possession of schedule 2 drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ford was released from prison Sunday on $13,000 bond, prison records show.

Jones and Sanchez remained in custody Monday night on bonds of $6,500 and $13,000 respectively, prison records show.

So, it's okay to do it, as long as they don't do it in the park. Jerk!! I hope those @$$holes get what is coming to them!
