    what do you think?

We've had Savannah for almost 6 years and never really been able to figure out what mix she is, so I thought I'd put it here and see what people thought. I won't have the answer since she was a stray when we got her, but I thought I'd see if anyone might have an idea. I always thought she looked like a Dingo (australian wild dog) which a genetist friend said means she's closer to a wild type, in other words she has so many different breeds she'd be your true mutt. In case you can't tell from the pics, she's solid muscle and weighs about 55 lbs, she also has black spots on her tongue which probably means some sort of sharpai or chow in her (I think those are the only ones with dark tongues??) Any suggestions??

If there is only small spots of black on the tongue it could be any breed, thats just the pigmentation. I know of a few awesome pure bred dogs of champion lines of different breeds with some black spots on their tongues.

But if there's a lot of black or if it's more of a blueish color then yes most likely she has chow or sha-pei. (Ainu dogs like a shiba inu have black tongues too but they are very rare outside of Japan).

My friend has an Aussie/Pitt mix that looks a LOT like her, including the tall pointy ears. Although she doesn't look a lot like either breed that really is what she is, my friend knows the parents of both dogs. When you mix breeds you never really know what you're going to get. lol

But I see quite a bit of Shepherd in Savanna.
    She's a cutie!

Actually, dark pigment on the tongue isn't neccessarily a sign of a Shar-Pei or Chow. It is simply just that ... dark pigment. I have seen Golden Retrievers with them as well as many other breeds and mixed breeds.

EDIT: nvm, lv4dogs got to that subject before me

I never realized that others can have a dark pigment, I just assumed with dark spots meant sharpai or Chow.

She reminds me a lot of a large corgi, but then she does something that makes me think she's something else...She'll always be a mutt, but personally I think mutt's can be some of the best dogs..

sammy has black spots on his tongue, and he's a cocker spaniel.

I would say maybe ACD/german sheperd? Maybe some corgi or lab in there?

Savannah looks like my Australian Cattle Dog in her build & her head, the nose, eyes, & ears. The Australian Cattle Dogs are crossed with the Kalpie, Dingo, Delmation, & the Highland Collie. Only her mom & dad know for sure. She is a beautiful dog.
