Little pup Miracle hangs on, with help
People are rallying to the badly abused puppy found Monday, sending money for care and good wishes for her recovery.

CRYSTAL SPRINGS - The more Gary Franckewich learns about the tortured puppy he named Miracle, the harder the words come out.

He knew the 14-pound puppy he found Monday afternoon was in bad shape: a rubber band wrapped tightly around the dog's jaws, her tongue left sticking out, deprived of food and water for perhaps days.
But Wednesday, he found out just how much Miracle has suffered.

"She had a broken back leg and one broken front leg and her hip was broken, too," said a teary-eyed Franckewich. "How could this little dog even walk to where I was?"

Emotions still ran high Wednesday for those who have come to learn Miracle's story, along with an outpouring of money for veterinarian bills and outrage that anyone could intentionally inflict such pain.

"I can't believe the amount of people that have stepped up and want to help," said Pam Edris, office manager at the Crystal Springs Veterinary Clinic, which is treating Miracle. "It's been astronomical, but it's been wonderful."

Edris said her office has been inundated with calls about Miracle, offering financial support and even a home when the puppy regains her health.

But Miracle isn't out of the woods yet.

More than half of the pit bullterrier's tongue has been amputated. She is being fed through an IV. But her mouth also rotted, and now she is losing some of her lips. Her immune system is low, which is why Miracle can't risk receiving visitors.

Dr. Gail Mendenhall won't be able to perform surgery until Miracle has been fully diagnosed. Her bills could exceed $1,500, and if she survives, Miracle will need rehabilitation and constant care.

Among the donations pledged this week, west Pasco businessmen Tommy McCormick, Danny Timmer and Angel Villamil are offering a $700 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Not that Miracle is holding a grudge.

"As amazing as it is, she still loves humans," Edris said. "When we go back there . . . her little tail goes thump, thump, thump."

What would be even more amazing, Franckewich said, is if he can take Miracle to his home one day. Despite the expense and time required, the carpenter said he can't give her up.

    "I work. . . . I work a lot . . . but I do, I want to have her. . . . ," he said. "I would love to be able to have the chance to have her and take care of her. . . .

"How can I not? Basically, she found me."

SEVERE CRUELTY CASE: Puppy's mouth clamped shut,

GOOD samaritan saves Pit Bull Now Needs help with vet bills
    Man rescues puppy from starvation

The female pit bull is under a veterinarian's care after being found
    with her mouth clamped shut.

CRYSTAL SPRINGS, FL. - When the carpenter first saw the puppy, it was
facing away from him under the corner of a vacant double-wide. The dog
turned, and Gary Franckewich could see there was something strange about
    its face.

"It looked like it had a monkey face," he said. "Its tongue was out of
    it's mouth."
He got low on his knees as the puppy stepped toward him. "I just looked
into her eyes," Franckewich said, "and she looked at mine."

A rubber band clamped the dog's jaws over its tongue. The female pit
bull terrier had been stuck that way, with no possibility of food or
water, not even able to suck her tongue back in, for perhaps several
    days.

"If that dog could talk," Franckewich said, "she would've been saying,
    Please, help me."'

Franckewich said he couldn't help crying.
Flies circled the tongue. Maggots had found it. The smell was
    nauseating.

Franckewich retrieved a blanket from his truck. He wrapped the puppy
in it, left the Bay Avenue mobile home where he had been working Monday
afternoon and headed to Crystal Springs Veterinary Clinic.

As veterinary technicians took the dog from his truck, Franckewich
wondered: How was it that, after being subjected to something so cruel
by a human, the puppy seemed to know that they would not hurt her?

"This dog had this trusting heart, and she was so betrayed by some
horrible, sick person or persons," Franckewich, 46, said Tuesday.

A day after the incident, he still could not recall it with an uncracked
    voice.

Neither could Pam Edris, the office manager at the Crystal Springs
    Veterinary Clinic.

"It's very hard for me to talk," Edris said Tuesday. "It's been an
    emotional couple of days."

They named the 14-pound puppy Miracle.

Her face is swollen. She is on
an IV. And the veterinarian was forced to amputate more than half of
    her tongue.

There's no telling when she will be able to relearn how to eat or drink
again without it. Maybe never. If not, they will try a feeding
    tube.

Someone had wrapped the rubber band several times around the 4- or 5-
month-old puppy's snout. "As far as her tongue was pulled out, and as
tightly as it was wrapped," Edris said, there was no doubt it was done
    deliberately.
The veterinary bills will climb easily beyond $1,000, Edris said.
Franckewich said he wants to adopt Miracle, but needs help.
"I live paycheck to paycheck, and I got 50 cents in my pocket right
now," he said. "But I'm going to take care of this dog if I can."

URGENT! UPDATE on Mouth Taped Shut! - Pasco County, FL. - Little pup
Miracle hangs on, with help!! -

    UNBELIEVABLE SUFFERING!! -

REQUEST FOR DONATIONS TO SAVE THIS PUPPY

    Dear Friends:

I can hardly type this for the tears. I know we have all seen some
very bad stuff, but if you just picture this little dog, now we find
with 2 BROKEN LEGS and a BROKEN HIP, INFECTED MOUTH, MAGGOTS in her
tongue and still wagging her tail, this is right up there at the top for
    heinous cruelty!!

SOMEONE placed a rubberband around her jaws, leaving her tongue hanging
out. The flies got it pretty quickly. No food, no water for days
    and broken in pieces.

I just spoke with the vet's office which is in the attached article.
This little soul will be with them at least a month and will lose part
of her tongue and lips SO FAR if she makes it at all!

I would like to post for donations, just $5 each would make a difference
for her, but I would also like to ask any and all animal communicators
who could donate a few moments out of their day to help us find the
person who did this by communicating with little Miracle.
No such crime as this should ever go unpunished!!

Below is the vet's info which I cc'd from the article. They said they
have received some pledges, but little actual cash. So if all of
you could post this article out with a request out for a communicator
who would donate their services to catch the person who did this, I
    would be forever grateful!!

I would like to send any monies straight to the vet, or I would hire a
    communicator myself.

Maybe there is one in Florida who would be nearer the dog if that would
help, though no visitors allowed yet. I think it is at times like
these that we feel capable of anything if presented with the perpetrator
    - at least that is how I personally feel.

    Thank you all.

To my cat friends, if you can just post this out it would be great.

Oh my gawd! This has me in tears. You know, so many people think the pit bull should be banned, it seems to me PEOPLE should be banned. This is beyond heartbreaking.

Thank you Kay for the beautiful sig!
