I am putting this out there in hopes of spreading the word about greyhounds. The Lake Geneva Greyhound Park, in Wisconsin will be closing its doors as of November 6 of this year. At this point there are an estimated 500-800 dogs there that need to be placed into adoption groups or loving homes. I volunteer for the Wisconsin chapter of Greyhound Pets of America. One of our board members has taken a very active role in helping to move these wonderful creatures to groups in other states across the country.
This is not an ideal situation, especially considering we are heading into the "slow" season for adoption. But we are hoping that if we get this ball rolling early rather than waiting for closing day, we can avoid some of the panic of the situation. So for all of you out there. If you know anyone that volunteers for your local greyhound adoption group, check with them. We are organizing hauls all across the country. At this time we are only hauling dogs to states that do NOT have racetracks. Even if you can only take a handful of dogs it would be incredibly helpful. Please pass the word. These dogs truly do make wonderful pets. For more information check out GPA Wisconsin Thank you for your time.![]()
