    Unhappy Jesse attacked Sammy

Okay, a couple of nights ago, Jesse and Sammy were playing (Sammy runs around Jes, as Jesse is trying to "catch her") and then Sammy was getting a little rougher by actually biting Jesse (soft bites) and before my mom or I could tell Sammy no, Jesse grabs her, and holds on tight enough to hurt but not to bleed. Sammy started yepling and I yelled at Jesse to let go.
I kind of shrugged it off after Jesse slunk away to her kennel, but, then last night, Sam and Jes were trying to look at Splinter in her cage, and Jesse attacked Sammy again! The exact same way as before. This time, I put Jesse in her kennel, and left her there for the night (she sleeps in it at night anyways, so it was only about 10 minutes early.)

Is this the start of Jesse being dog agressive?-to any dog? I don't know what to do. If she decides to really hurt Sammy, she could kill her

    Any suggestions would be wonderful..

Is sammy new to the family?
I had the same problem with Kodie when we got Lucy. They were playing a Lucy got too rough,so Kodie 'attacked' her, with no blood. He was telling her not to be so rough, and it's probably dominance. He's never done that again with her.
The 2nd time, were they just standing side-by-side?and Jesse just attacked her?

Kind of, they were looking at Splinter (my hedgie) and Jesse either got jealous or something..

Sammy is not new to the family. She was here before Jesse was though. (She really is not my dog so, I talk about Jesse more)

Another thing is that Jesse is food aggressive with everyone but me. She has ALWAYS been that way.

I don't know if it is a dominence problem like Kodie and Lucy..I thought that we would've had that problem before. Sammy is 9 years old, and Jesse is 4 years old. They have been together for about 4 years, and we have never had this problem, that is why I am concerned..

oh I'm sorry to find this, sweetie.

uh.. it's difficult to know.. stephanie, where was the first time? in backyard? indoor? splinter's room? ..maybe a behavior aggression? but four year-old after four years together?

I'm not sure, yet. but what I think you could do is try & PM gina(gt)?

anyhow, hope this just won't happen again & I'll check back in!

good thoughts for a solution, hugggs --

    Thanks Gina, I'll try ginagt...

Both attacks were inside. The first one I am thinking was just a back off, but the second one has no visible reason..

    Hi,
    Here goes with the questions....
Splinter is your new hedgie, is Jesse particularly fond of Splinter? Like maybe she views the hedgie as hers? If so that would explain the first episode, you said the second time the exact same thing happened, was Splinter around that time as well?

ARe you sure this Jesse is being aggressive toward Sammy and not just giving him, a warning? The yelp in play means, hey you are getting rough back off. If they Jesse is really being aggressive toward Sammy then you need to stop it now. What you do is mark the bad behavior with a word, it should not be a word you use all the time I use "wrong" When Jesse goes to far you say wrong and put her in her crate for 5 min. Bring her out and then watch them play again, if she goes to far again you use your word and back in the crate. You should only have to do this 3 times before the word is enough to make the behavior stop. You can also replace the crate with Bitter Apple for punishment, if you want to keep the crate a happy place. So you say wrong for the bad behavior and if you have to chase her down and spray Bitter Apple in her mouth and then continue as if everything is normal. If it happens again "wrong" and Bitter Apple in the mouth. Remember only 3 times max. Timing is very important her you have to mark the bad behavior and be consistant about it. Good luck and keep me posted.

Thanks kittycats_delight for the great signature.

Thank you everyone..sorry, I was unable to get online for a while..

Gina (ginagt) Jesse tried to eat Splinter..yes, we now keep them apart. Jesse thinks that EVERYTHING is hers. She is so possesive. The second episode, Splinter was present, but in the first she was not. Splinter was in her cage, and both dogs were staring at her, and as far as I can tell, Jes just spun around and bit her.

Jesse has actually bit Sammy again, but has mouthed her, snarled, and nipped at her, so, we get after her and put her in her kennel (which she hates). I will try the bitter apple method very soon if this nonscense does not stop.

Brody's Mum, I know whatcha mean! I love this saying: Growl at them and wag you tail at the same time, that'll confuse them owners!
